Disney Shutters Online Streaming Service Nobody Knew They Had Another Clunky Studio-Backed Web Portal Goes Kaput Disney has announced they'll be shuttering their online streaming service many customers never knew even existed. An announcement on the website notes that the service will be closed fully as of December 31, and notes that users who obtained a Disney Combo pack with Digital Copy will still apply to Disney content over at iTunes or Windows Media Player. Many movie studios created online video streaming websites for their movies to make themselves appear progressive, and to stake their territory should they ever get serious about streaming. However, most suffered from poor technology, limited selection, and heavy restrictions. "The digital environment is rapidly evolving and Disney Movies Online does not have the flexibility that many users today demand," Disney said in a statement.

| Reason why they should use what already works. Yet another reason why studios should just provide the content and let the established distribution outlets distribute the content.
Hulu plus, Vudu, Amazon Prime, Itunes. The studios can make some money from those outlets, then they can push it to Netflix and Redbox after a few weeks, and call it a day.
No need to do it themselves.

| Re: Reason why they should use what already works. Disney did use Hulu Plus and I'm not sure how people claim they never knew about this. You hear about it on the radio (pretty much every station has/d these ads), you hear and see it on EVERY Disney/ABC station, including online ads on ESPN in random times of day. Sounds like Disney found a better way to make $$$ then giving it away for free. | |

You guys want to be able to use it where you want, when you want and we just aren't willing to accommodate our consumers because we are too scared that our profit margins may lower and cause a shareholder revolt. | |
