Comcast Makes Final Four in Consumerist 'Worst Company' Award
Must Defeat Bank of America, TicketMaster & EA For Ultimate Honor
"After more than two weeks of dismemberment, disembowelment, and all-around good family fun, this year’s Worst Company In America tournament nears its finale, with only four contenders remaining with a chance at claiming the ultimate victory and clutching the Golden Poo," proclaims the Consumerist website. The site's Worst Company in America award has come down to Comcast, Ticketmaster, EA, and Bank of America. For the second year running, AT&T has caught a break by being matched up against the even-more-disliked EA, who could be propelled to victory this year on the back of their SimCity DRM launch debacle. AT&T's decision to hang up on DSL users and con several states into becoming broadband backwaters apparently isn't quite the same headline grabber as crappy game DRM and obnoxious in-game microtransactions.

My vote is for Bank of America

While Comcast can get ugly at times, I think Bank Of America deserves the golden poo award. They are the ringleaders in predatory lending and business practices.

I will never do business with BofA ever again. I bank with a local bank.

TD Bank was good until the massive data breach.

Other companies who I think deserve the Golden Poo is Subway (declining quality), Dish Network (bad customer service), and McDonald's as they always serve the food cold.

I uses to be a fast food junkie until health issues took their toll. I try to eat at Subway and Panera Bread more and burger joints sparingly.

After I had an abdominal ultrasound for an unrelated condition and they discovered non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, I switched from Coke to Diet Mountain Dew. And I cut back on fast food and I try to cook on my Weber gas grill more.

you do realize that diet sodas are worse than regular sodas for you right? they cause your body to panic when it cannot absorb and process the fake sugars, and your body goes into a "storage" mode, in where you store more fats and other nutrition. Most people that drink diet sodas actually gain weight. Switch to something like powerade or a drink of the sort. Way less sugar and other stuff. I quit drinking pop regularly about 4 months ago, and now only drink it about 2 times per week(about 20 ounces each time), and I have lost 25 pounds without doing any other changes in dieting and exercise.

Re: My vote is for Bank of America

There are many, many studies proving this. The latest was done by France's National Institute of Health and Medical Research and was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. To quote the article on it: "...researchers found that participants who drank "light" or "diet" soft drinks had a higher risk of developing Type 2 diabetes than those who drank regular, sugar-filled sodas."
Diabetes is just one risk - there are many others. A quick Google search will give you tons of info. Just FYI....

You know the reason behind that isn't because of the Diet Soda itself, and is based on the diets of those drinking the soda, right? A large amount of people drinking the diet soda think they can now over induldge in other things, because, hey, I got 0 calories from drinking this Diet Coke. They are also the people more likely to drink more soda on a regular basis because they're "not gaining anything" by drinking it, but in reality it makes them over eat on sweets and other unhealthy food.
If one can regulate their soda intake, perhaps switch a regular soda with a diet soda, and not actually change how much or often they drink or eat junk food, it still prevails over a regular soda. The people drinking a 64oz over a 32oz regular, because it's diet, are what are the ones off setting those studies. Fact.

His biochemistry lesson is way off, how could you store fat if your body never absorbs the chemical but I digress. You don't absorb corn skin or tomato skin, so are these the next evil ingestion on his thesis?

However, diet soda is definitely linked to health issues statistically to say the very least, one of them being cancer. That said the mayoclinic [famous cancer clinic] says its not bad for you, but there are definitely healthier choices around. Aka its studies are not conclusive to PROVE it causes cancer it may be something else diet soda drinkers use that is causing it for all we really know.

The other issue is Diet Mt. Dew has an assload of caffeine which has good and bad effects.
»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/He ··· caffeine

But too much of any good thing is still bad.

Whats more important is do all cowboys in IOWA whine as much as he does?

Yes, if you're serious about losing weight, change your life style completely, quit drinking soda all together, switch to natural juices and more water. More fruits and veggies (some fruit still has a ton of sugar, so be careful) and lower caloric intake. That easy.

add wells-fargo to that list. they are just an in general crappy bank. The last year I banked with them it cost me over 3000 in "fees". I have been banking with a local credit union, doing the same shenanigans, and have paid exactly $25 in fees over the last 2 years(and I admit fault with that too!).

My experience with Wells Fargo is far different. Ever since they took over Wachovia, I've had nothing but good service from them. My accounts have no fees (because I have direct deposit), at the branch near me they have always been super nice, their online system is great (even deposit checks using their app on my phone), and bill pay works as it should. Even their customer service via phone has been great the two times I've called. I know all the big banks get a bad rap, and mostly well-deserved (in the case of BA especially). But I have no reason to switch from WF for now.

Been with a local credit union for almost 2 decades now. Beats the banks hands down. Owners are the customers, customers are the owners.

I have zero complaints. BTW, every bank in my area has changed hands time & time again over the past 20 years, but my credit union (Sun East FCU) has not. It would seem the credit unions, with their ties to the local community have a constancy the banks, especially the big banks can't touch.

I would encourage everyone to look into membership with a local credit union. There are no drawbacks, and you could save a lot of cash with a great customer service experience.

I vote for ticketmaster, hands down...

Ticketmaster needs to DIE!!!!

Forget their monopoly on tickets, forget just about anything else about them, they are the worst.
Why?
I'll tell you...

I booked tickets MANY years ago via them, as they were the ONLY place to buy tickets for a comedy show I wanted to see. The show was canceled a few days later.
Tickets were NEVER issued.
They refunded the ticket price, but refused to refund their "handling" charge...

Have NEVER dealt with them since...

Didn't know they were still playing. Many of those '90s bands have since disbanded as they are now getting pushed off the charts by Lady GaGa, Ke$ha, Hot Chele Rae, All American Rejects, and Owl City.

Some '90s bands are still going strong like Green Day. At the rate they're going they'll be the millennial generation's version of the Rolling Stones.

TMs "handling" fee, to which they even charge on digital PaH tickets, is now up to $20 per ticket depending on the price of the ticket, and is non-refundable. If possible, I buy right from the venue that the concert is to be held at, and if not, I will not deal with TM at all.

once places started forgoing TM as their primary seller, ticket prices went down, and refunds were much easier if the show was canceled. TM is a pile of shit, and im glad I no longer have to deal with them.

You know what's really sad? The fact that EA is even that high. I mean, they make non-essential items in a competitive market. If you get screwed by them, then buy someone else's games. Ticketmaster is sort of the same, except they have a relative monopoly.

AT&T, BofA, and Comcast all provide essential services that people can't do without. Two of those have monopolies throughout many parts of the country, and duopolies in the areas where they might have one competitor. BofA has a societal duty to provide consumers with essential financial services, but they at least have a bit of competition. The horror stories that I can tell you about BofA...they're unfuckingreal.

What I'm getting at here is how in the hell is a video game company at the top of the list when their products are meaningless compared to what the others provide? People's priorities are really messed up.

At least banking has competition. Big banks have the advantage of convenience but small banks have better service. I left TD Bank for a local bank because TD Bank had a data breach and they got too high on fees. As most of my purchases are on my debit card. I can count on less than one hand the number of times I've used an ATM in a given month and if I need cash I'll go to the supermarket or CVS and I'll buy a soda and get cash back. Most ATMs around here get $3.50 to pull money out but getting cash back costs nothing minus the cost of the soda or candy bar that you have to purchase for the privilege of getting cash back.

Back in the good old days the state of Iowa had a ban on ATM terminal fees and I think non bank ATMs were banned in Iowa as well.

Re: All a formality

Big banks aren't even convenient anymore. The vast majority of credit unions have partnered up into the Coop network. This means almost all CU ATMs and every 7 Eleven ATM around the US are fee free. If you add it up, Coop dwarfs the size of BofA's, Chase's, or Wells Fargo's ATM networks. Many of them offer shared branching too in case you need to physically go in.

Crapcast = the biggest loser

I've done business with all four of these companies and even have a BoA credit card. While I wouldn't place any of them atop a pillar, Crapcast would win my vote for the leader of the pack in this category. And not JUST because they've been a horrid company for so long and can't even make it out of the bottom four after supposedly putting forth SO MUCH EFFORT to make a difference.

It's because their customer service just plain SUCKS. Most of their employees don't know a cable from a hold in their head. Lack of training on the part of employees and on the part of admin to HIRE good employees has got to be at the base of this. I dread EVERY SINGLE TIME I have to call this company and it completely ruins my day (which normally turns into 1-4 weeks) when I have to deal with their complete incompetence.

I should say there have been a few good ones who have been able to clean up huge messes others have made, but they are tough to find. There is one employee who even helps here at BBR and does a good job. But in a sea of hundreds I've talked to, I can count on ONE HAND the number of good experiences I've had.

The only happy BofA customer I guess

I have been with BofA for close to 30 years and never had any problems and always received good and prompt service. If I ever have a question about my statements I have no problems getting someone on the phone who has a clue. When I did my mortgage it was fast and easy. Same with my refi. It was all done online with the exception of the notary whom BofA sent to my office. Perhaps it is because I never tried to rip them off by ducking my payments that I never had a bad experience with them. Same with the ML side. No problems ever.

Ticketmaster has been fine for me too. Aside from the stupid captcha never any problems. I always received what I purchased. Don't have Comcast. EA on the other hand would send me bad keys for downloadables and then take forever to respond. Then it was the play online codes that are tied to accounts so you can't sell the title when you are done.

So I would vote for EA. I won't buy their stuff again.

Now EA says that complainers are Homophobes

EA's Chief Operating Officer Peter Moore contends that EA’s decision to allow users to create lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered (LGBT) characters in some of its games has resulted in a voting campaign orchestrated by those opposed to portrayals of LGBT characters in games:
quote:
“In the past year, we have received thousands of emails and postcards protesting against EA for allowing players to create LGBT characters in our games. This week, we’re seeing posts on conservative web sites urging people to protest our LGBT policy by voting EA the Worst Company in America.”

May BofA rot in Hell...

After getting royally screwed by BofA way back in my youth, with one of those deals where BofA had a special on-campus deal on free checking/savings/credit card back when I was in college, I swore on my mother's grave I'd NEVER do business with them again.. Fast forward to 2008, where the lender on our home, Countrywide, got absorbed into BofA, neatly cancelling my determination to never do business with BofA... Since the home is in Las Vegas, and showed it was "worth" $65K and with us owing $106K on it, I despaired of ever being able to give BofA the finger.. But I kept hearing those QuickenLoans ads where they claim even if you're upside down you could get refinanced, so I gave them a call, and sure enough, we were able to refi down to 3.99% from the 6.50% we had thru Countrywide/BofA, dropping the monthly payment down about $200... So I certainly hope BofA wins the "Worst Company" award.. They sooooooo richly deserve it... Judging from all the horror stories I read about them on the web, there should be a LOT of people voting for them...

The bad math contest

As someone who works for one of the Final Four, I have to say that I really can't take Consumerist and especially the WCIA seriously. Not that some aren't deserving, but most of the vote is based on misdirected anger and general lack of contact with reality.

But the whole "second worst company" nonsense just pisses me off. I've even shown them where the math fails, but they simply aren't concerned with being right, and that's a deal breaker for me.

Plus, they stopped having comments. What respectable blog doesn't have comments? One that doesn't want anyone calling them on their bullshit, that's what. Plonk.

CC is bad is some markets, not so bad in others

Well, thought they are pricey like Verizon for their services and nickel dime you to death. I've never had anything bad to say about their customer service. They are just overpriced and fee you at every turn for every little thing. They just opened a new service center by me and till that, that's been my only real gripe. I have BOA and again, maybe it's how much you keep in their safes but we have never had issues with them and they have always treated us well (alerts, fee's waved, etc). Sprint should be there because, well, most Sprint CSR's are just stupid. They do not know much of anything about the company or how their service works. They can't even take a dump without escalating it to the next level. And having worked for the company for 10 years (till 3 years ago), I can just say they are an embarrassment to the company.
