AT&T Makes New 45 Mbps U-Verse Tier Official
As noted yesterday, AT&T's long-rumored 45 Mbps U-Verse tier has started popping up on the company website after months of reported trials leaked first here at Broadband Reports. Now AT&T has officially confirmed the new tier, issuing a press release stating that the new 45 Mbps down, 6 Mbps up tier is currently only available to customers in California and Nevada (and even then, assuming you have quality, short copper loop lengths). The tier can be had for as low as $49.95 if bundled with promotions, though the website lists the price as $76. There's no specific word on which states will be next to see the faster speeds.

AT&T: give us more information

It would be helpful if AT&T provides a bit more information about which states will be getting the upgrades and approximately when to expect them. I know secrecy is a big part of their culture, but consumers will use information to make informed decisions. For example, if AT&T offers faster packages, then I may not install a faster and somewhat cheaper cable company internet package with a 12 month commitment. Or I may upgrade my existing AT&T package. Again, more information is better here.

HAHAHAHAHAHaaaheh...right

ATT expanding service is a laugh. ATT/verizon served counties in KY took 90% of the state and fed stimulus from 2008-2010, you still can't get dsl outside most city limits(and some be lucky to get over 6meg in town). County run telco Coops like Logantel put in 16meg dsl to every resident in their service areas, even the Amish get 16meg dsl and they don't even use electricity. Advertising technology they're never going to deploy has been the ATT public relations scam for a decade now.

Logantel is run by the County?

I don't think so.

Re: Part of their official LIE

I said it before and I'll say it again, Kushnick is a fool if he ever thought U-verse was FTTH. He's also confused by the term PSTN. As for "official lie", you'll need to explain your point, not just quote some misleading article.

U-Verse was garbage, and still is

Comcast is doing 50mbps, and has been for quite some time. Their service is still pathetic, has sporadic availability, unlike cable, where the entire town has the exact same access by law, and has a horrendous TV service to go with it. When AT&T runs FTTH, then I'll pay attention. Until then, crap.

U-Verse Up Speed Sucks

It's the 6 Mbps up that's the problem. That's unacceptable and does not compete with Cable and Fiber.

Actually Charter offers only 4 up on it's 30 meg tier and 5 up on it's 100 meg tier which by the way is $115 a month.

doesn't really matter for competition

I can have both AT&T and Comcast in my area. The prices are only like a 5$ difference between the two. Even when you bundle. I have the option for this tier too and only difference is AT&T requires a contract. My mom lives 45 mins away in another county and the prices are in line with what she has and AT&T isn't even in there area yet. Competition, who needs or wants it since its not offered even when there is competition.
