Sprint Forced to Pay Comcast $7.5 Million in Patent Fight
In December of 2011, right after the cable industry struck their massive spectrum and marketing arrangement with Verizon, Sprint filed suit against Comcast, Time Warner Cable, CableOne, and Cox for supposedly violating Sprint VoIP patents. In early 2013 Comcast returned the favor, suing Sprint for violating numerous patents related to core network services, SMS/MMS, and 3G modem technology. After a four day federal trial, this week Sprint was forced to pay $7.5 million to settle the case. Sprint's original suit, which resulted in this counter-suit, isn't expected to see a court room until next year.

Sprint can't afford to raise prices even a penny right now... So I doubt it.

Software patents just need to be forbidden.

They do way too much damage to innovation.

Why the delay on Sprint's Origina Suit?

"Sprint's original suit, which resulted in this counter-suit, isn't expected to see a court room until next year."

Why was the Counter Suit allowed to proceed and be settled while the original suit still is awaiting a court date? The original suit should have been fast tracked (as this counter suit apparent was) OR rolled over into the counter suit and heard at the same time as one case.

Comcast clearly has the better lawyers and political lobbyists.

Nobody crosses Pa Cable. Nobody.

Why was the Counter Suit allowed to proceed ....

filed in different courts, Sprint files in KC, while Comcast files in Delaware.
I guess each hopes for a little favoritism/ the advantage of familurlarity in their local court though both are incorporated in Delaware*

I guess Comcast is still a PA corp. but Delaware is the court of choice

Layoffs to make up $7.5 million

U think Sprint will make up the lost $7,500,000 by doing more layoffs???
