Problem is not many computers could handle that much bandwidth throughput. With that much data you're going to push the very limits of the hardware architecture (motherboard, hd read/write speed, bus speed, etc.).

Why don't those lab "boys" expend their energies into developing a practical and cheap way of making last mile connections that I (and the rest of the country) could actually benefit from - INCLUDING GETTING ME A BROADBAND CONNECTION!?!
You can shove huge amounts of data around the country until your nose drops off if thats what you want, but it is almost entirely useless when people can't take advantage of tapping into it.

Agreed. And with fewer competitors with each passing day, the telco's have little incentive to improve things -- they can simply sit back and feed from the revenue stream generated by existing technology...

Wow that was awfully harsh! DirectPC or satalite broadband can't compare with DSL. The ping is worse than dialup and the bandwidth isn't that spectacular either. Ontop of that he'll probably endup paying double or triple what you pay after he buys all the equipment to make it work. Maybe those lab boys should spend a bit of time researching methods of dilivering quality broadband cheaply.

| i'd be happy to get what i pay for i think this advancement is tremendous. it's truly a testament to current technology.
what i see happening, however, is this technology will just take a little longer to oversubscribe, but that's what will happen. there's simply not enough competition- and furthermore, as days progress, there's less and less incentive to compete.
incidentally, doesn't Seimens in Germany hold the data-delivery record? -- AOL/TW owns RR

Assuming you had unlimited cash, you could get some amazingly fast service. Probably not terabit quality, but lots of gigabits, if you wanted.
Unfortunately, it would mostly go to waste. Unless you were serving the universe streaming media, it would be hard to saturate that kind of connection. And even if you surfed for all the [insert what you surf for here] you could stand, it's doubtful any sites could fill a pipe that big anyway. Anything not filled is wasted, so you'd better have a pretty fast click finger or a loooong list of filez to download.
Aside form the momentary slowdowns and bottlenecks, I'm actually very happy with my residential broadband service. It's plenty fast for my needs, and most of my wants. -- Couldn't you use a little Zaffix today? --

I think it's great they've developed a means to transmit data faster. Now if only a service provider will bring that to the masses... but to blame the manufacturer is like blaming Alcatel or Advanced Fiber Communications because the telcos won't deploy more remote terminals. | 32 gBps Bell can do 32 gigabytes per second, and I can't even get a dialtone sometimes. Verizon claims they don't provide 100% user to trunk coverage, and people on dialup are eating up what they do provide (yes, dial-up is over-saturation in my area).
I'd *much* *rather* have dialtone all the time than bandwidth I can never use; just in case I have to call 911 or something.
