Earthlink to develop photos via Snapfish

Level 3 Communications has made a successful semi-transition to software company, and has managed to stay afloat because of it. But Earthlink as a photo development house? Earthlink has launched the Earthlink Photo Center, a joint venture with photo-processing company Snapfish, which allows photographers to mail film to EarthLink, who will develop it for $2.99 per roll. Film Developing?

I don't see any synergy for Earthlink. Local stores are more competitive with 35mm film , and digital pictures don't require a lab. Level Three's software acquisitions were strategically brilliant; this deal isn't in the same league.

Re: Film Developing?

Yeah, just seems a bit weird, doesn't it?

Sounds like a stuffed suit had a "brainstorm" at a board meeting and "wanted to be proactive with this digital photo stuff"......

Don't think it will fly...
