25% of All Homes Globally Now Have Wi-Fi
439 Million Wi-Fi Homes at End of 2011
by Karl Bode 08:25AM Monday Apr 09 2012
According to a new study by Strategy Analytics, 439 million households worldwide had installed home Wi-Fi networks by the end of last year. That means roughly twenty five percent of all households in existence now host a Wi-Fi network. Strategy Analytics predicts that this number should reach 800 million in 2016, for a global penetration rate of 42 percent. South Korea leads the world with the highest Wi-Fi household penetration in the world in 2011, with most future growth in Wi-Fi enabled homes unsurprisingly coming courtesy of China. "China already has the highest number of Wi-Fi households in the world, followed by USA and Japan," notes analyst Jia Wu.

US at 61% of households

The US is at 61% of households, which isn't bad considering that number includes households without any computers at all or households without a broadband connection. Too bad they didn't give a WiFi penetration rate for households with landline broadband connections. I'd bet the WiFi penetration rate would be much higher than 61%.

My home has wifi, but no landline. All I need is 12V.. I could even put it in my car if i desired.

I can't live without it!!

FIOS Internet with free router. Dunno what to with the linksys router I bought a few months before FIOS. I still have a landline FIOS digital voice along with an iPhone. I can't cut the cord what if I loose my iPhone or it dies then I have nothing. What if there's an emergency? Got a good deal on the package.

What would happen if you use that router you bought prior to the FiOS installation?

Re: I can't live without it!!

well i'm dying to find out so when you get bit by the anti lazy bug let me know the results. you may or may not have to copy the mac address of the FiOS router onto the Linksys router if after swapping the routers and rebooting the whole FiOS equipment, it doesnt work. its easier and less complicated then it sounds.

Ok, maybe you will inspire me!!! I wonder if I can simply just plug the linksys into the FIOS router and see what happens lol!!! Yes, lazy. I cant bear to go into that room and get on my old clunky computer when I have my nice iPad to use. The iPad can't do everything so i need to get in there soon to do some other stuff. I will keep you posted. Remind me if I don't get back to you if you think of it.
