Hacked For the Very First Time
Madonna finds out what file traders are doing...
Earlier this week Madonna sent out a personal message to file traders who were sharing her new "American Life" single; and she quickly received an answer. As we mentioned previously, the pop singer and her label released a flurry of phony versions of her latest single to file trading services, which instead of music, contained Madonna's voice asking downloaders "What the f--- do you think you’re doing?" Hackers quickly informed the material girl exactly what they were doing; defacing her website and posting direct links to several versions of the song. The Smoking Gun has a screen capture of of the defacement and a synopsis of Madonna's adventure versus the techno-underground.

What's going to be funny is when these losers who hacked her site are caught and prosecuted. Can't wait...

You all realize that Madonna got exactly what she wanted out of this, right? She's made the headlines twice in the last couple days by recording 8 words. I'm sure she couldn't care less about the fact that her website was down for a few hours. The hackers just made it into an even bigger story. Bravo!

The real question is whether or not someone really hacked her site or if even that was a PR stunt.

This song is not just one of her tricks, I am from Serbia and Montenegro , and trust me this song has meaning here in Europe... That single is the best thing she made, no matter I disagree with her about war , about USA .....
I am not patriot in my country, my dream is to live in USA, and I would be patriot there... many of u people are not aware what u got in USA , and I don't mean material....
MADONNA was and she will always be part of American dream!!!!

I have a feeling she probably knew something like this was going to happen, so that more free press for her new album would be generated.

Re: Ahahahahahahahahahaha

It's a brilliant publicity play; nothing more, nothing less. Same as releasing the video in Europe and not in the US. Would MTV play it in the US? Sure, but that doesn't grab the headlines like this does.

The artists (not here to argue semantics) who get downloaded the most on P2P systems are also the ones who sell the most CDs; think of it less as theft (again, not arguing semantics) as the new barometer of your Q Rating as a musician.

"Intellectual Property" (snicker)

"Intellectual Property", is an oxymoron that far surpasses, "Military Intelligence ", in its sheer absurdity.

Re: Ahahahahahahahahahaha

MTV wouldnt play it here. dont know if you've watched it in oh.. the past 5 years but they're not the pillars of free speech and reaching out to teens like they say the do. MTV is more PC than the Lifetime Network and if they think something will tarnish their "great" image, they wont play it. they're a 'family' channel now....

To madonna. well, what did ya expect?

Of course not. What do you think they are, a music station? I think they might have been at one time, maybe back in the '80s, but it's been so long I don't even remember.

Amen! You also have to think back to when she said it wasn't appropriate to release the video at the time because it was anti-war. Anyone with any self respect wouldn't have even mentioned the video (or made it in the first place). Whatever plasters her old, tired face all over the news is worth it to her.

I think she just can't handle it that her husband is more successful than she currently is and much more artistic to boot.

awesome.

Good, I used to like madonna, not anymore. I remember right before the New tupac cd came out not too long ago, it too me forever to find the real versions of the song becuase I got tons of stuff that was just the first 5 seconds of the song over and over again.

There is only one way to hurt the RIAA

And that would be to boycott all RIAA music labels. Don't buy their products. Don't download their artist's tracks. (You don't want them shaking you down for $150k a track)

Tell your friends. Spread the word. NOTHING will change as long as they are making money.

You can change that. One person at a time, the money train can be stopped.

How long will it take the "material girl" to change her tune after the gravy train stops??

How may lawyers and politicians can the RIAA buy after they run out of money?? Time to hurt them good. (I personally haven't purchased or downloaded a track for at least 6 months, and I don't plan to change that any time soon)

American Life single????

I went to kazaa and downloaded the song a bunch of times at different sizes and qualities but didn't find this bogus file she released. What did she think she was doing? Didn't effect anyone with the garbage she calls music. I could have swore that her music was half way decent when she was young and started but now all I hear is garbage.

hmmmm...

I went to the madonna.com website to check it out, and I noticed her real website was back up. I chose the "flash" version of her website, but it didn't work because I only have Flash 5 installed, and it wanted Flash 6, but there is not a Flash 6 for my hardware (yet).

Not only that, but it resized my Netscape window to such a point where I could not exit out of my Netscape. I actually had to go and kill my Netscape process (I am using UNIX). And when I restarted Netscape I still had to scroll over to my adjoining virtual desktop to resize my Netscape.

I have mixed feelings about website designers that have taken the internet protocols to such a point. There is nothing wrong with a flash website, but why do you have to make it automatically go to full screen and disable my window borders? Isn't it possible that some of us might be doing something else besides wanting to check out the Madonna site? If I wanted a full-screen presentation shouldn't that choice be left up to end user?

If it wasn't for the fact that I have a virtual desktop (i.e. My desktop area is several times larger than my monitor - I can scroll of the edge of my screen onto another one) It might have taken me quite some time to fix this problem.

And for all that flashiness, no security to go with it. Hmmm.

As far as the file sharing thing, the file sharing laws vary from country to country. Apparently, in some countries, it's OK to share music for personal uses, you just can't sell it for a profit - I guess maybe she's just trying to make a statement about American Life.

American life - bitch about file sharing, get your website hacked.

PS - Here is an interesting article I just found, you may want to check it out if you have not already...

RIAA Piracy Arguments, figures just don't add up - (inquirer.net) March 20, 2003

What a dumb ass

what the f**K did you think was gonna happen by provoking file traders, what a dumb h0, her move to record those fake tracks was as stupid as the idiots who released them or even came up with the idea. That kind of move makes me want to download it, then delete it. Naaaaah, why waste valuable space on my hard drive.
