| NY quote: New York City was chosen as a test bed for the service because, according to a Verizon rep, "Our large number of customers here, who are on the go and want to stay connected..... make the city a natural place for our initial Wi-Fi rollout."
As opposed to other American cities where users like to be enclosed in cement, avoid all technology and love isolation.

New York rocks, I might be from New Jersey but New York is my city!
Verizon is a great company, free upgrades to 1500/128 and a price cut, NOW this!
Way to go Verizon! You might be a monopoly but atleast you don't rape us like Cablevision!

You may hate CV, but there are at least a few people in the Comcast forum who would love to have to deal with CV and OOL.

No you're not! Until you Jerseyites pay the commuter tax and give back Ellis Island and the statue of liberty, you're not New Yorkers!

Here in Cleveland it costs nothing to park your rear end on top of something.

You tell me what's so great about Independence, OH first.

You haven't even begun to explore NYC. Take a look at www.nycwireless.net and you'll see popular spots like Bryant Park, Tompkins Square park and tons of hotspots on the lower east side. Last I checked, you don't need to pay to sit in the park.

Guess it defeats the whole point to see who can warchalk the most AP's within the shortest amount of time. -- It's not a question of need, it's a question of want.

| | Can't come fast enough! This and Verizons Fixed Wireless Broadband just can't come quick enough to other areas! Bring this to out to the Northern VA area (especially here in Ashburn VA) and Verizon would have one hot HOT product. I'd jump ship from Adelphia the instant it came online. -- Date last purchased an RIAA managed music CD: Dec 2001. | |
|
| | I'm so-o-o-o tempted... Verizon is making it tough to justify what I spend for my Speakeasy account. The phone booth outside my apartment window is one of their hotspots and I'm thinking how much I'd enjoy working in the park across the street this summer! | |

| | Why this will fail well i work for verizon and I know for a fact this is a blessing but at what cost? I serously doubt verizon is capable of having a issue free transistion to wifi. I do have a point to raise....isnt the point of having ATM and Frame Relay is for reliablility? Well then guess what, you may sure expect the same pleasures you alreayd expect from verizon but now wirelessly. Also security, we will the same existing user/pswd you have now without any other modificiation to you account but will this work on our NT and UNIX servers when the transistion is into play. I dont know yet but im sure to see a # of issues to increase in our VOLEast area (NY), and I will begin monitoring it and posting it here as it happens.
I think you will be charged from verizon and it will be a stupid priced fee even though its supposedly free "NOW". Watch your bills people you may get a MISC charge for using it and there will be alot of finger pointing.
I dont mean to scare you all but the thing you have to understand is that the Corporate heads make crap decisions and then from down the ladder its even made worse. Ive seen a new corp head everyday for the last month and a half here at our center and are the accomplishing anything....no.
While making this transition to Wifi I hope they will better understand the technology that is behind this , the way to help customers correctly, and a secure method of connection. I honestly dont think the current method we use will even get through a month but well have to see. Just remember one thing...it would suck if one of you were to be hacked through verizon by the guy sitting behind you at the coffee shop and have him complete access to your files etc. Just some words of thought...

| | Reason for Price Cut The reason for the price cut is because they CUT half there tech support staff. You thought your hold times were already bad just wait. I admit actually our hold times went down a tad but if you look at the ratio of agents to customers calling in youd laugh. Verizon doesnt have enough agents. Wifi issues have a new support group which im sure will be under much scrutiny and they just finished there training a few weeks ago. Dont get mad at the agent when you get hacked. Just report to BBB. THe user/pswd we send through wifi wont be secure with 128bit encyption lol. Did most of you ever think of this. If there is a person to hack your account its not going to just affect your "WIFI" session it will affect your email, webspace, myaccount, account security everything. I dont think verizon sat down and throughly thought this out they never do. | |
