| | | Gee, you guys are always wanting cable companies to do something for an extra 5-10 dollars more.. just ask.
Comcast has internet pro, and while it is only 75 dollars a month in ohio, outside Nashville where i live it's 95.00 and although it had a rough start with me as a customer ( system was not capable of the speed they advertised) I recieved it free until it was fixed, and for the 95 dollars a month, I have my own node, fiber to my door, no one else is on my stream, and Im getting 3.5 down 386 up and am extremely happy to pay the money.
I am told that they are going to upgrade me to 5 down 1.5 up for the same 95.00 a month beginning in agugust ! you are talking to one happy customer now, and comcast has bent over backwards to keep me as a customer, and upgrade their system.
10-20 years huh? maybe they are seeing the writing on the wall and acually doing it now. I will continue to gladly pay 95 for this service. pay up and yee shall recieve.

If they offer this service at this price it would be a fair deal. How's your LQ? -- "Parched, dry and thirsty...Knee deep in the river of life."

| | | The Ultra service is 65.95 and gives you three meg service down and 800 bps up...unlimted bandwidth....I use this at home and have no complaints...with a bunch of comps on a network...I still have amazing speeds and find it worth the money. | |
|
| oliphant5Got Identity?Premium join:2003-05-24 Corona, CA | How about just lifting the caps period? In OC/CA speeds were consistently 3Mb before the caps, and now 3Mb after the caps. There was certainly no reason to implement caps here in SoCal. If they have a regional issue they should deal with it regionally by having temporary caps while RIGOROUSLY moving to repair the problem or increase capacity. | |

| That'll be great... I'll believe it when I see it... There had been other rumoured changes to the sevice that too months to years to finally appear.
But, if/when it comes into effect, it'll really unlock the connection for Ultra users. Can't wait. [text was edited by author 2003-06-19 19:59:39]

Yes.... Sympatico *IS* abolishing the caps as of today, (June 19th, 2003) I was told this by Sympatico's Help Desk. I inquired about service availability for Ultra in my new area and it wasn't available and then she asked me if it was a bandwidth issue, I said "yes". She informed me that as of today all bandwidth caps for regular High Speed and Ultra have been removed. The low end 'basic' DSL will continue to be at whatever it has been,(1 Gig, I believe) I was also informed that the service for regular High Speed will now be 1500/320, up from 960/120 (YEAH!!) Each account must be upgraded individually, so each High Speed customer will be informed by e-mail as soon as the upgrade is implemented. BTW... The person who took my call was extremely polite and very informative. I've found this to be true with 'most' of my "SURF" calls. I'm very pleased.
|
| | | Re: Confirmed... ;) ive been getting 1500 from my independent dsl as of this week. (supposed to be 960) Woot for us all! | |

YEAH!. their bottom line was affected, sure they got rid of some hogs, alienating thousands of users that are low use and they jumped ship on principle to other isps that weren't capping traffic. goes to show capping does not work. -- You can never be too rich, too thin or have too much Bandwidth
|
| | | the low end dsl depending on what modem platform you are on is 160/96(Dslam)and the bandwidth cap is 2 gigs...the 1.5 meg service(the upgrade) is only available on the Dslam platform and is slowly being applied to all customers...all new customers are being given the new service...If you are a basic dsl customer now is the time to sign up because for roughly the next 2 weeks you can upgrade from basic to hse for 24.95 for the first 5 months...and yes us at tech support love helping our mems and making sure they are satisfied;) | |
|
| | | "I was told this by Sympatico's Help Desk" They're so (stupid) unprofessional. They don't even know what's happening in their company, at all.
I did receive (by phone) a "trial" offer for 2 month of Ultra High Speed. She (and please believe that I'm not misogynist at all) told me that Sympatico also drops all bandwidth caps. Next day, someone else called me to correct that info: in fact the Ultra service does not exist in my area.
Finally, being so angry, I used the "red line" and I found that Sympatico would drop "all" bandwidth caps only for Ultra package and only for (at least) 1-year subscriptions. That's all.

I dumped Sympatico a year ago when they first suggested caps, and it's unlikely I'll ever go back regardless of the change in policy. Did you also hear the recent announcement about Sympatico joining forces with Microsoft to 'build up their customer base' (through some mutual co-branding ventures)? I wouldn't want that to be another case like Roadrunner where they apparently target a certain group of people with better high-speed internet deals just to lure you right to the FBI's chambers. Sure, it's not like Microsoft is the FBI, but they could switch masks and not many people would notice.

| Tit for tat I wonder if this has anything to do with the caps that Rogers is planning to put on their customers in the near future?
Lets see, Bell puts on caps; Rogers puts out "special" rates to bring in ex-bell customers. Bell removes caps, just as Rogers goes to put theirs on. Tit for tat to draw customers by the looks of it. -- I use PGP do you? The Art of War

| | Bell vs Rogers there is a simple way for either Sympatico or Rogers to get my money.... alow me to run servers for private use.. which ever one of these companies does that first I will switch to. | |
|
| | | Re: Bell vs Rogers You can run servers an either service. Its not like they care. They won't notice you running servers unless you start taking up major bandwidth. | |

bodi join:2002-03-07 Toronto, ON | Rogers server policy Rogers officially bans servers, but hasn't been bothering users running HTTP or FTP servers for non-commercial low use servers. Asking support gets confusing answers, but I've had my IIS HTTP server running for quite a while with family pics etc., without any hassles from Rogers. They do quite a bit of scanning and monitoring, I know people who tried non-standard port FTP servers to move MP3 and MPEG files that got told to shut down or be shut down.
