that and the fear of tiering were the two major reason why I packed up my RR equip. and went back to DSL.

| ha, they are throttling your service now and you are not aware of it. how is this different, except for the supposed download speed of 3mg? They can throttle you at 3mg as easily as 1mg. I see the commercials, and at no time do I get real time imaging, like that basketball playback on their tv commercials. Throttling means the computer automatically changes your speed when it or the loop exceeds a certain amount of data. Cable is cheaper, but in some ways just as crappy as DSL.

| Cap me ...and you've lost 6 loyal customers I've had RR for almost 2 years along with their digital cable. (about $110 monthly). I've seen 3 price hikes as well as a drop in my connection speeds but I'm still content with what I have. My friends in my apt complex have similar packages. We have other alternatives for broadband (DSL, Satellite). If this pending cap goes through, that's roughly a little over 7 grand in yearly sales that AOL/TW will lose. I'm sure others will defect too.
While it may not seem like alot to AOL/TW....give it time....as more people see how ludicrous this is...the more they may regret doing it. Perfect example would be to look at Bell Sympatico. They imposed these same type of caps and pissed off their customer base something fierce!!! A few mos later they 'wisely' re-thought that idea and got rid of those caps!

| Supporting P2P? In the North Carolina section, it lists several activities of internet users who would benefit from Road Runner Xtreme, including "sustained music file sharing". Is this an endorsement of sharing music over the internet? Surely they must realize that the vast majority of music sharing is done illegally.
The RIAA/MPAA have been wrong about almost everything recently, but they were right when stating that ISP's were generating huge revenues based on filesharing, while still denouncing it. What hypocrisy.

Maybe they have it figured out. You rarely here Road Runner mentioned in the file sharing forum when people are talking about what ISP's are sending in letters and turning over names.

| Shady Backroom Deals Back in the day when the RIAA was setting their sights on Internet Webcasting - there was a closed door meeting between Time-Warner/AOL and the finest of the RIAA that basically allowed them to continue offering services such as "Internet Radio".
While taking a huge cut from the bottom line for themselves that would be needed to run such an operation, they succeeded in placing the brunt of what would later become stiff licensing fees on the hobbyist broadcaster.
He who has a mass media corporation, all the money, and the largest market share of Online Internet communities under their belt - makes all of the rules.

Their benefits package is identical to that offered at Warner Bros. in NYC (a former employer of mine) and their job app asks if you've previously worked for AOL/Time-Warner. BrightHouse appears to be like WorldCom calling themselves MCI. They are just trying to get away from the negative press they've received in the past.

| What's that sound, everbody look what's going down I for one REFUSE to accept the caps as they now exist for some RR users. If they put the caps in the 30gb down/10gb up range I would begrudgingly accept that. Anything less and I will be finding alternatives. I do not file trade, but I do beta test for a couple of well known major software makers and I work on many open source projects. Not to mention the numerous Linux distros I keep up with and the countless freeware programs from alt.comp.freeware that I experiment with. And that is not counting normal gaming, email and surfing that my entire household does. I refuse to use my broadband connection like it was dial up. If forced to, I will find an alternative or I will go back to dial up. If enough people do the same these caps will become more consumer friendly. If the masses act like sheep it will only get worse. | |

How would capping someone ability to download on a broadband network where speed and lots of bandwidth are available. I see a cap go if there are limitations of the network (the FAP that Direcway sat. has) but that's the only time it seems reasonable.

Exactly what I like to hear... why? We offer 56K!
The greedy High-Speed offerers will probable end of pooching their own sweet cash cows!
We've already got a few High-Speeders back to reliable (alas slower) Internet Service with out the "gotchas."
After all... who wants to deal with "ah ha! GOTCH'A!"
peace
(Note: I do have High-Speed and would hate to see it go away, but I'll be danged if I'm eventually going to be capped, slapped with high fees, and rapped to about HOW and WHEN and FOR HOW LONG I'll surf the dang net!)

| Depending on the prices it might actually be a decent deal. If the service is 3Mbps download and 512kbps up and allows you to run servers, have a static IP, and have good peering (as in, not the congested AOL backbone), depending on the price I would go for it. Right now I have to pay $80 a month for 768/384 DSL with a static IP and they allow servers. If the 3Mbps/512kbps service were offered for around the same or up to $30 more, I would definitely go for it, provided it met the conditions I outlined above. Unfortunately I don't live in an area where Time Warner Maine is available, but I might move soon to an area where it is.
Also, Time warner of maine has a business offering, but it costs $1000 per month for 2Mbps symmetrical service, and you are only allowed to run a web server on it.

| HOW IN BLUE BLAZES DO YOU THINK YOU CAN GET 1.3TB IN A MONTH? You are either not using RR or are a bad liar.
3Mbps = 375k/s 2Mbps = 250k/s 1 day = 86400 sec
375k/s * 86400 sec = 32.4 gigs 250k/s * 86400 sec = 21.6 gigs
32.4 gigs * 30 days = 972 gigs 21.6 gigs * 30 days = 648 gigs
I have personally only managed to pull approximately 120 gigs a month. And I'll tell you that I was trying pretty damn hard.

| Cable blows up on you all
The thinking on caps is this shared network large dowloaders slow down the network but if we use caps on bandwith them they won't download as much. You all are whining about 40 gigs a month lets be real other cable companys like cox set the cap to 2 gigs per month you could get DSL and not be told how much you can download per month. I had cable modem service of about three months I thought it sucked. I went to DSL because I hate a shared network.
