SBC announces price plan
(old news - 09:24AM Tuesday Nov 25 2003)
tags: wireless · telco
SBC unveils pricing for their Wi-Fi push, and hopes to have 2,000 hotspots ready in their 13 state territory before year's end. According to Internet News, SBC plans to offer three prepaid packages: $25 for three sessions; $50 for eight sessions; and $100 for 20 sessions (each session is one day of access). The company will also offer a monthly fee for access to hotspots, with the ability for users to bundle Wi-Fi with other services to reduce the price. The article also reports that Verizon is scaling down their Wi-Fi rollout in New York City, claiming to only need 500 hotspots instead of the originally predicted 1,000.

SBC is a leader

SBC in partnership with BellSouth created Cingular. This is the only cell phone company that allows you to rollover your unused daytime minutes. This is a really cool feature I wish Sprint had.

SBC is really innovative with all these new products in the market. I say more power to them if they can bring this to the masses. WiFi is very convenient since there is really no wires involved.

Good Job SBC

I just upgraded my phone and plan to get one of those Rollover plans. Cingular allowed me to switch from my old Nokia 3360 to a "new" Nokia 6340i without paying for the phone if I extended my contract for 2 years. As I am very happy with Cingular's service in the Philadelphia area, I had no problems with this provision.

I read in the Philadelphia Inquirer that Cingular rolled out some high speed data service in Indianapolis. I would like to see that come here soon.

I haven't seen anything like that around here yet. It would be nice though, Cingular provides great service in this area, I've been a customer of theirs since the bellsouth days.

They will say anything to get you to sign up.
THEN they won't do much to keep you.

Once they sign you up they dont gotta worry about satisfying you anymore. they got this thing called a 'early termination fee' to keep you handcuffed to them. if any cellphone company had a decent plan with decent service there would be no need for these penalty fees.

SBC tech support could use improvement

SBC service is ok, but hope you don't have any problems that require you to contact support. SBC treats their customers like idiots and threatens them with the $200 idiot charge. Even if it's the first time you call them. I feel sorry for residential areas where legit problems remain because people have been threatend by a $200 charge if their tech doesn't find the problem. Techs make mistakes, they are not perfect.

How many SBC techs does it take to terminate a wire? HAHAHAHA!!

I'm serious it takes about 4 SBC techs to find out the first one didn't terminate a wire correctly. Who are the idiots? How about SBC pay us $200?

It took SBC techs 8 months to fix a T1 problem. The first 4 months tech support blamed our router. Then after a cycle of 4 techs coming out, 1 of the techs finally found the problem. It took them 2 months afterwards to fix it. Very poor service from their techs. Like I said, how many techs does it take to find a problem. Some SBC techs in the South Texas area are lazy-asses.
