1,300 Earthlink Employees to be Fired
Many support positions outsourced to India
(old news - 01:24PM Tuesday Jan 06 2004)
tags: business · trouble
At the end of December, rumors began circulating in our Earthlink forum that the company was planning to close the majority of their US call centers, and outsource those positions to India. As of this morning this rumor was confirmed via an e-mail sent to all Earthlink employees and a press release issued by the company. 1,300 of the company's 5,100 employees will lose their jobs in the "restructuring". Three call centers in California and one in Pennsylvania will be closed, Atlanta operations will be trimmed, and many support positions will be shifted to India. Does such a move impact your opinion of a company? Vote in our latest poll.
