Strikes deal with Disney for content
(old news - 10:05AM Thursday Jul 22 2004)
tags: cable · content
While Comcast and Disney never did get married, the two are apparently still dating. The companies have struck a deal where Comcast will pay the company $20 million to provide children's content for their cable broadband service. Forty percent of Comcast High-Speed Internet households include kids, claims Comcast executives. By providing Disney themed content, Comcast believes they should be able to differentiate themselves from the competition. Comcast has been hard at work trying to fill their pipes; the company is exploring everything from video mail to games on demand and dating services.

OK -- Comcast is a Mickey Mouse operation right? Between all the ESPN crap and now Looney-Toons I'm never gonna get enough Quantum Physics or Cosmology programming

Re: I Get It

But.. why in the world would you care.. if your location is correct.. you should be able to get the Verizon FTTP so you should have plenty of bandwidth capacity for both if you wanted to look at both!!

Constant, repeated errors

The providers keep thinking we want them to provide content we can already get. Stupid portals, special agreements with media companies, blah blah blah.

Stop selling to people that don't want your service. Start selling to the people that are already paying for it.

Did you see that?

When was the last time a comcast customer visit comcasts site? Almost everyone I know here uses comcast and no one ever goes to their website for its content. Maybe to get the 800 number to complain about the service...

Another Option for Parents

This gives parents another option - instead of parking the child in front of the Television to occupy their time, now parents will have the option to park their child in front of the computer for entertainment (beyond the various games currently available).

While there is a potential side effect of driving unsupervised internet use to an even younger age, I'm certain that the children of today have no desire to wander off to areas on the web less appropriate.

Maybe Comcast will now get DNS working.

If Comcast thinks they will profit from content, they may find it important that we are able to find it.

If I want to watch TV I turn on my tv not PC

Seriously Why the hell they are providing video over IP they are already a CABLE company.

I would understand if they were a DSL co. they would be trying to get CABLE customers.

They are trying to compete with themselves.

I don't like it either...

I hate comcast's site ... the only time I go there is for the webmail feature ...

and that is if I'm using my comcast email account for some special reason.
