4KTV Internet Streaming Tested in Japan
Japan Aims to Be the First to 4K Before 2014 World Cup
Japanese operator NTT West recently conducted trials
to show that 4K TV signals can be streamed over the Internet. Using the more efficient new H.265 High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) standard, 4KTV aims to deliver four times better resolution compared to the standard 1080p high-definition content, though I've heard more than a few people complain that the improvement is not worth the TV set price, or the volume of bandwidth this will eat. Japan aims to be the first country to begin broadcasting 4K content ahead of the 2014 World Cup. Netflix recently stated that they expect to offer 4K streams in a year or two
. Comcast recently stated that they're ready to offer 4KTV signals
"if the market develops."
