5100b, 4100, 4100b, Moto-2210 and the older modems updated 04/19/10 by David Wednesday 22-Sep-2004 As noted in this article... » I am told my Speedstream 5100b is trying to ping? The 5100b, 4100, 4100b, and the motorola 2210 require you to either respond to the ping via "smart keep alive", or set it as appropriately below. This has been a known issue since 2004. This update just brings it up to date. • Bridge the modem via the » 192.168.0.1 (» 192.168.1.254 = motorola) and setting the modem to "PPPoE on computer" modem. At this point either your computer or your router would have to initiate the PPPoE session. • Set the modem to "Always attempt to connect" and pass the public IP address to your device. This would alleviate the problem and allow you to just use DHCP for your computer/router. • Select a different modem (if you possess one). 2wire 2701, netopia or other DSL modem/routers. Keep in mind if it's a 3rd party device AT&T does not support these devices and I would suggest you contact the manufacturer of that device should there be questions or concerns. If you have other solutions or combinations you know is working for your setup please post as well as any other information that might be needed.

Set the PC static to 192.168.0.64, 255.255.255.0 with a gateway of 192.168.0.1. Specify the DNS appropriate for the area.
This should help prevent the PPPoE timeout on the modem.

| New update 03/30/05 Some customers that also use different operating systems (Win2k, WinNT, Win98SE, WinME, Win95) and install a seperate firewall such as Norton Internet Security (NIS), Mcafee firewall, or Zonealarm, may also experience this problem. If this does happen you can do what is suggested, or allow the packet from your modem through your firewall software. -- If you have a topic in the direct forum please reply to it or a post of mine, I get a notification when you do this. said by David Different method (untested) If this works, please confirm by post a reply to this message Someone in this center advised that if you access the interface at »192.168.0.1 in the advanced->connection settings menu and setting the modem to "Always attempt to connect" this also alleviates the problem as well. However, as of this message this is untested and unconfirmed.. ]
This has been tested by many on the site and this appears to work as well. -- If you have a topic in the direct forum please reply to it or a post of mine, I get a notification when you do this. Koetting Ford, Granite City, illinois... YOU'RE FIRED!!
