Doesn't look like there's much in the general area.

| Re: how about the 28%..? Oh, there is plenty in the Lehigh Valley. It would take a lot for me to part with my Megamodem Mach 7 (7600/800) I have with RCN. Take a look at speed test from the Lehigh Valley: »/archive/?zip=···t=Search -- Kerry Edwards '04 | |

| My very limited experience with BPL. I live in Bethlehem, PA and I actually have access to this service - I get a postcard from PPL about once a week. However, I'm completely happy with COVAD DSL so I've been unwilling to attempt the risk of switching to save $30 a month.
I have had the opportunity to test this out at two different locations and it 'seems' to work very well. I did several ping and trace tests to various gaming servers and various ping and speed test sites and all the results were extremely comparable to my DSL connection.
Now I know there are many complaints about interference, etc.. which I can't really comment on. Just my limited experience and exposure to the service. -- Scott B. Hustedhttp://www.Husted.cc

Thanks for the report on the functionality of BPL we don't often hear about it here. What I find interesting about your post is PPL is trying to establish it's self in a area which already has established boardband provider. So much for "the Broadband for the rural masses" idea being hyped. The only bright side of this FCC sell out is once the Telco's and Cable provider see they will have to deal with BPL I expect a price war BPL providers will not be able to match. Good for us, bad for BPL. -- »www.gobpl.com

| Interference? OK, 72% of the people are satisfied. What about the 28% who are not? And [this is more important] what about interference to other services? Also, this is in a relatively well populated area, can this be done in the remote, rural areas, with the same speeds & at the same cost? | |

| Re: Interference? I am pretty sure that BPL can extend out much farther than DSL using some sort of internet repeater/amplifier in intervals.
I may be wrong, it may be a rumor, but I heard that somewhere. I think the major problem is the interference caused by it to amateur radio users. I have not heard of it interfering with any other signals, but it might.

BPL CAN NOT extend as far. DSL DSLAMS with a 60,000 foot range are now being deployed. BPL is good for only a couple of 1000 feet. As for only interfering with Ham Radio, I am tired of repeating myself. Read what RF Engineer has written here at DSL Reports. -- »www.gobpl.com

| Re: POWER LINE good! - Power Link = ACK! YEAH! Screw competition from other services.
Keep higher prices and low speeds!
That's the way to do it!
And push BPL back to the 20th Century! Might as well push cable modems and DSL back to the 20th Century too! Since they were all developed then. And damn, might as well push fiber back to then too.

| Re: POWER LINE good! - Power Link = ACK! This has nothing to offer in the form of competition.Price wise or advertised speed wise.Sure dsl and cable were developed in the 20th century. Those services do not polute the airwave spectrum that bpl does,Which makes it failed technology. So far every trial run of bpl didnt work. The very definition of insane is (to do the same thing over and over again hoping for different results).Thats the end result of the bpl trials,The facts of bpl have been posted here countless times.I'm not a ham,Yet why should bpl be allowed to stomp all over the communication or air wave spectrum.? YOU want bpl in Raleigh...fine with me.I dont want that nor will i pay for it in Pa.Just for cable tv the cost here is $62.and change per month-no cable internet. So yea i agree cable can go back to the 20th century also,With those crazy prices,It just aint worth it to watch the same show 5 times a week,Besides there is only 1-2 good programs on catv.the rest is junk.Fiber is the future to high speed internet access.Me not wanting bpl in my area has no effect on you whatsoever.BTW bpl was an outdated technology before it was ever tried in the U.S.A .But thats imho have a nice day though . I'll stick with dsl until fiber replaces it. | |

| Yeah, no biggie...after all, those vacuum tubes are nearly 19th century technology by now and should have no affects on the 21st century technology that BPL is being paraded around as. | |

| Look at what I came across In the FAQ section of PPL Broadband I noticed it said:
What scenarios have you had interference? Limited amateur radio interference. In that case an adjustment can be easily made to eliminate any interference.

| Re: Look at what I came across Yes but you fail to notice that in ALL trial areas so far there are few to no ham operators living near them. This information is publicly available in the FCC license database for anyone to see. The companies pick areas that have few to NO ham operators living near the test site on purpose, except in one area out west where the interference got immediately noticed and the company had to shut it down. When this crappy technology gets deployed in more ham populated areas the shit will hit the fan, not to mention all the public safety and homeland security comms. Remember this when in the future I tell you "I told you so", and every customer gets to pay for this waste of time and money in the form of higher bills from the power company. | |
