The Wi-Fi 'Nightmare'
802.11a gumbo, 802.11b gumbo, 802.11g gumbo, 802.11n gumbo...
John C. Dvorak, in this commentary for Ziff Davis, writes of the numerous Wi-Fi standards: "Of all the technologies that need to settle down, 802.11 wireless in all its manifestations ("a," "b," "g," and—coming soon—"n") should be at the top of the list. There is a mad rush to make the standards for 802.11 move forward at breakneck speed. At this point, do we really need 802.11n? [Wi-Fi is] essentially a black hole of confusion, similar to the one created for the old modem market with all its names for various speeds and protocols."

Did you people even read the article or understand what Dvorak is trying to say?

The point of the article is companies like Belkin releasing these pre-IEEE standard products and the consumers buy them, only to later find out that the equipment they bought is not compatible with the finalized standards. His whole point is the average consumer needs some protection from this. If you don't understand about the standards and bought one of those pre standard 802.11g routers and then when the standard was finalized, had went out and bought a few wireless cards for your new computer and laptop, only to find it it wasn't compatible with the router you had bought before, wouldn't you be pissed? That is the point he is trying to make. That releasing these pre-standard products needs to stop in the interest of the general consumer. Actually think about what you are reading next time before you decide to spout off about something.

Read. Think. Comprehend.
