| Nice to see I'm not the only one who sees this, Doc.
At the very least, google is raising the bar for competitors like increasing webmail storage.
I wouldn't be surprised if cerulean studios (trillian) is in their targetting scope for an IM client.
All i can say is that if google codes an OS (Goo-gOS anyone?) I'll be running for the hills because a war will be brewing. -- "My weakness is that I care too much"

| Could be a FireFox/Google XUL application Google might simply see FireFox as an up-and-coming browser and want to get their foot in the door developing applications to take advantage of it. For example, you can code XUL applications that FireFox can run. These don't look like traditional webpages and can have additional features that would be hard to match in a normal website. Google might be interested in exploring these options for the future. I really doubt that Google will come out with their own browser. -- -Jason Levine http://www.jasons-toolbox.com/ http://www.PCQandA.com/ http://www.urateit.com/ | |

We are witnessing web-history unfold as Google positions itself to be an indispensible part of the internet as we know it. A browser for Google? I think that's almost too easy... that's like Mercedes saying they're going to start making mudflaps. As with Mercedes, Google's all about the engine... a gbrowser would only serve as an accessory.

"Ben Goodger said in a note on his Web site -- »:/weblogs.mozillazine.org/ben/ -- that he would continue to work on Firefox, a free browser that has gained a popular following due to additional features and fewer attacks from malicious hackers than Internet Explorer.
Internet cognoscenti have speculated about a Google browser since the company registered the Gbrowser.com domain and hired several Internet Explorer engineers last year."

| You leave Jack Burton alone! Google is slowly becoming Jack Burton... "You leave Jack Burton alone!" (Big Trouble in Little China)
Come on, media folk. Leave Google alone already, good lord. Scanning Monster and Dice for job openings at the company just to make media noise is pretty limp-in-the-pants, you know?
Besides, the last time this happened, I ended up debunking the speculation.
Despite my dislike for Google as a company (particularly their hiring criteria, and their hiring practises), nothing irritates me more than general media absurdity. It wouldn't surprise me if Google ends up posting a humourous job opening somewhere, asking for professional pigeon handlers. The company *does* have a good sense of humour, you know... -- Making life hard for others since 1977.
