Re: LOL!DO you have some special deal or something?
everyone has seen, heard, read about the price increases from just last year!
When I had attbi and they changed to comcast my bill with discount for antenna service went from about 45 to 60 a month, then suddenly my antenna service didn't count anymore and it jumped from 60 to 99 a month. We had service outages but most times they were usually at 3 to 5 AM. I was extreamly happy to be back in a DSL serviced area again.
Despite what I've just said they do have some advantages Just as DSL does. I wouldn't go out my way to numerate them though, Digital Cable however is another story YUCK (Yeah yeah IP TV is going to be a mess too I don't even care about it)
The funniest thing of this story is that employees/retirees have to pay more! I don't know if there is an option to drop their discount and go for the deal, The price isn't too far off of this and there is no contract so there are some pluses.

We got hit with the sweet 30% "How dare I not want CATV" price increase. And we ALL got a price increase when Comcast dropped their price in a single market in violation of Federal Law » 'Discounted' Competition We should've gotten the same price. As for outtages you need only see the CC forum. If your service is reliable...yer lucky. » **Network Outage Posts ONLY please!!** Part 2As for nastygrams, you need only see the CC forum. » /r0/do ··· /aup.jpg As for seeing what the caps amounts are...of course...Comcast refuses to disclose them while still telling some users they're using too much of their 24/7 service. As for usenet caps... » online.comcast.net/giganews/

Comcast has a FEW customers(7 million?), plus Comcast is having to deal with thrashed/old lines that they did NOT lay thmselves that have needed maintinence for years(ATT's old lines). Again, I haven't recieved these price increases you speak of! As always, YMMV.

Re: LOL!You're lucky. I had cancelled the CATV service when my CATV bill went up $17 over 18 months AND they removed programming I watched and put it on its own tier for which they wanted $5 on top of that. Then just 2 months after that I got a price increase letter saying that I have to pay an extra $14 a month because I wasn't a CATV subscriber making DBS not the great deal so I ended up getting blackmailed into going back to Comcrap. Most recently we lost our ATTBi news server access and now if you want to actually USE your usenet service you gotta get a 3rd party news server subscription. There's another $10-$25 a month depending on usage.

I've had VOIP for about 2 years now. Its great, my SBC bill was ~40 bucks before I dropped it. Now my phone bill is like $15.00 for the same features I had before. No backup and if there are outages, I've never been effected by them. Then again, I'm not a heavy home phone user. My phone calls are something like
person calling me: "hey are you home, I was thinking of coming by" me: "sure, I'll be here, come on over"

Re: LOL!SBC has unlimited use 3000/512 for $30 and 6000/608 (at least through their resellers) for $50. Verizon, my ILEC for my DSLX service has offered 3000/768 up for the last 4 months. I've had my 768 up since late October. I was lucky to get 220up when I was on the 3Mb CCHSI tier and now on the speed tier I'm still lucky to get 350up and still no sign of the speed increases.

Re: LOL!Huh? What are you talking about. In order to get the 6000/608 plan through an SBC reseller like say DSL Extreme, you HAVE to be in SBC's service area. Just like my DSLx service. To get DSL I must go with the ILEC or the ILECs resellers and can only get those plans. I can't being in Verizon's service area get the SBC 6000/608 plan from DSLx. I have to choose those plans offered by Verizon whether it's 3000/768 or 7100/768 or whatever. Being in Verizon's area I can buy direct from Verizon, or through a reseller. Same for those in SBC's area. They can buy direct from SBC or buy from resellers.
Sorta like some Comcast and Time Warner markets. In some Comcast markets like I think Seattle you can get cable internet service delivered over Comcast lines from Comcast or Earthlink. The choice of content providers is even higher with Time Warner with Earthlink, RCN and RoadRunner being the content providers. Eventhough it's all basically the same service you may get different pricing and different perks. Same goes for DSL.
At the time I got 3000/768 I was actually with Verizon, but switched to DSLx 'cause Verizon didn't at the time direct sell 3000/768. But even with DSLx the lines were still Verizon, the phone service still Verizon, the CO still Verizon, everything Verizon, except the internet content provider.

Re: GREAT DEALIts definately worth having a land line with just local service for anything important. Tons of people don't get affected by any limitations either. I've had 6.0/608 for over a year now and its great! The only thing that sucks is the fees, yes, but cable and other DSL providers all have the same stupid fees tacked ontop of the prices. I've got quite a bit of relatives and friends in MI in various places, and this should easily be able to get a few more to finally switch from dialup. It really sucks for the few people I know in MI in Verizon territory. Verizon doesn't seem to offer any DSL at all in any of the areas they are the ILEC here. And our cable company, Comcast, charges upwards of $60/month + fees and taxes for basic cable, and its another $60/month for laggy high-ping slow-upload internet access. I don't know anybody that can get Comcast who can't also get SBC. Its only the few people in Verizon territory that only have Comcast's monthly-price-hikes as an option.

Everytime SBC works on a phone line, they break another. Last week SBC was working on someones phone line and broke my neighbors line. They fixed it and have now broken my second line that we use for our business. This has happened many times in the past. Everytime I see a SBC truck in my neighborhood I expect some new problems.

Whatever rate the line is synched at is the rate you get. Distance matters only as much as it affects what the max rate. If the line maxes at 1.6Mb/s and you're capped at 1.472 then you have nothing to worry about at all.

Wait so that's 68.95 + all sorts of other fees. And getting a decent conenction for $39+ voip for $25 only comes out to 64.

What do you mean "usually"?In reading the PR on this it says you get the price without a bundle requirement if you order online, but you have to bundle if you phone in the order.
Order online...no bundle Order by phone...bundle
Unless I read it wrong. | |

Re: What do you mean "usually"?Yes, that is correct. Before March 1 it required the expensive all-distance bundle either way. As of today, if you order online, you don't need to bundle anything except basic dialtone. If you call in your order, they still make you get the useless all-distance plan though.

Re: What do you mean "usually"?Why am I not surprised. I had SBC DSL 1500/256 package for a year - it worked Ok - no outages $26.95 + FCC charge.
I migrated to DSLExtreme 1500/384 dsl as the same package was $21.95 + fcc with no bundling.
Now that work is paying for my DSL (up to $50), I upped the package to 3000/512 for $36.95 (same as SBC, but no bundling).
I am 1000' too far for the 6008/600 package.
DSL Extreme is quick to get things rolling, and offer a full newsgroup - throttled, while SBC offers a limited newsgroup + packages like gator (came with installation).

Why squabble?I see a LOT of squabbling in the early part of this thread about Comcast versus SBC. Let me put things in perspective for you...
There are still MANY people out there, like me, who would give a left (and probably right) nut to have cable or DSL available to them. Say what you want about Comcast or SBC being bad or otherwise, but I would pay $150 per month for either...period.
I will most likely end up on a satellite service in the coming months, but again, cheerish what you have....

I know what you mean. I know a few people (2 at least) in MI that can't get cable for TV even, and their ILEC is Verizon, with no plans for DSL. One of them goes without internet access, while the other uses DirecWay Satellite! Ouch. It seems everybody who can get SBC or Comcast can usually pick which one they want, since both are offered there. Poor rural users, getting screwed again.

Otherwise it sounds like you are either Jealous or have never used SBC DSL.
Either way if you have a point you would like to relay to the subject then post it, I havn't seen one yet.
I happen to have have SBC DSL and it has never gone down and is rock solid speed and Latency for gaming 24/7, so I think this is nothing but good news.

Complainers :pAs always, unless it is free, unlimited 100MB/100MB, no-cap service for $1.50/month, you people will complain. Sheesh. Just once can't we just say "a price drop for some, cool" and leave it at that?

They got it in Japan for $1.45. They're ripping us off!!!
If it's faster complain about the price. If it's cheaper complain about the speed. If it's faster and cheaper complain about the quality. If it's faster, cheaper, and stable, then complain about availability.
