Canadian storage vendor Synetic Inc. introduced Tuesday the SyneRAID-600SSA, a portable RAID enclosure that's also equipped with Serial ATA II capabilities.

The new unit's 400-gigabyte drives also feature an NCQ disk interface and 64-bit PCI-X bus architecture, combined with a Ultra4 320 SCSI channel host interface, for equal parts performance and flexibility, Synetic said.

The SyneRAID-600SSA provides RAID levels 0, 1, 3, 5, 0+1 and JBOD, as well as online array roaming, easy GUI management with e-mail and SNMP event notification.

The SyneRAID-600SSA offers value-conscious customers buying SATA for the first time the functionality and reliability of much larger units but at far more economical prices, the vendor said. The SyneRAID-600SSA starts at around $2,500 and is available now.
