| Can ANYONE here ever post a comment without name calling?
Seriously, if you don't like Comcast, say so.. don't need to call them Comcrap) if you don't like Verizon, say so... but name calling only reflects on you personally and gives the opinions in these forums less validity.
It's because of posts like these that gives this place a bad name. If this is supposed to be a place to look to for information, posts like these are only counter productive to the purpose of this website. When I ask others if they have heard of this site, it's obvious they have with the sour response they give. For example, their response when asked about this site is usually no different when people here give their opinions on Comcast, Cox, SBC, etc.

I could point out that coincidentally this all started back when the socialists disguised as democrats had their asses handed to them back in 2000; and that this is just an indication of the liberal mentality of "our way or we'll cry like babies because we don't know how to cope or come up with new ideas", but that would be inappropriate. -- Beagles really should come in convienent 10 packs.

Nice thread crap. Yeah, I guess not having 500ms latency or receiving speeds somewhere more than 1/8 of those advertised is too much to expect and to question it is immediately whining. So be it. But I would point out that this all started when Comcast's service went downhill. I certainly didn't have problems when ATTBi ran things. Coincidentally that's when the 20% video hikes came about, 30% penalties for not wanting CATV service, sudden limits on usenet, magic caps...this has nothing to do with whining leftists, everything to do with Comcraps' increasing anti-consumer policies. I don't give a crap how much Comcrap makes so long as they deliver the service I'm paying for.
As much as you and Comcrap fanboy there whine about people dissing their provider, I would guess even more are disappointed by thread crappers turning nearly every thread into a dumbass political rant. -- "Republicans believe every day is the Fourth of July, but the democrats believe every day is April 15." --Ronald Reagan

In most cases, I beleive the problems either were that the WAN port on the router was 10mbit, or the processor in the router wasn't designed to handle PPPoE encapsulation at 15mbits. A 15mbit connection without the extra PPPoE doesn't take a considerable amount of horsepower to route/NAT it.

| Hope their upgrade investment can handle it.... It's safe to say this tier will be popular and this really pushes the DOCSIS 2.0 spec. Although if they can lock their users to basically browsing and establish limits to prevent users from heavy downloading, its got a chance.
And yes, some user-end hardware changes will be needed. Comcast found several modems from different makers that couldn't make it to 6Mbps.

| Re: Hope their upgrade investment can handle it.... DOCSIS 2.0 only offers upstream enhancements, but I believe the current downstream maximum is almost 38Mb/sec. On the upstream side they can add return channels, increase modulation, split nodes, or a combination of the three so I don't see that being much of an issue. | |

| Re: Hope their upgrade investment can handle it... Well, if FIOS is going to be all it promises, Cox needs to push for a DOCSIS 3.0... or start planning now for whatever the next generation of cable technology will be, so when they've maxed out what they can provide with DOCSIS 2.0, they can continue to move forward.
As far as modems, Cox lists compatible modems on their website, but they should also be proactive in notifying users when their modems will no longer handle the speeds being delivered.

| Re: Impressive! I was a Media General subscriber when Cox took over... By 2000 I was so mad at Cox for high prices, poor quality service, outages, etc. I canned them and put in Satellite TV.
Not even knowing the speed increase was coming, I decided to light the cable back up two weeks ago for internet access only. And that was based on the improvements they've made the last 2 years. The $39.95 price offer didn't hurt either for 4M/512K... That made my poor DSL line look paltry in comparison.
Now with 5M/2M upgrade for me in the near future, my decision looks all the better. Who knows... maybe I'll dump the Satellite system and go back to cable in the next year. We'll see.
Mean time, Verizon is installing FIOS in the area, but no clue when my neighborhood might get that.

| Is my area going to be upgraded soon too? I don't want to pay $54.95 per month for 5Mbps down and 768Kbps up when somebody else in Virginia getting to have and experience 15Mbps download and 2Mbps up from Cox. Come on, Cox, please throw the rest of us a bone for pete's sakes, upgrade our bandwidth speeds and not just NoVA Cox HSI service. Then Cox will be the fastest cable ISP in the U.S., even passing OOL since Cox's premier tier will be capped at 15/2 in comparsion to OOL's 10/1. Why not go ahead and upgrade all your wired, servicable areas, Cox? It doesn't make very much sense to upgrade one service area because of FIOS, and neglect the rest of your areas because Verizon is going to upgrade your service areas with FIOS. What about the rest of us, Cox? I'm not speaking for every Cox HSI user, but I'm speaking for myself instead and my needs, I can use faster speeds and 15Mbps down and 2Mbps up fits my needs just fine. It would be exactly like my school's fiber Internet connection but it's at home and for $54.95 per month. Does anyone know when my town going to get upgraded to 15/2 and 5/2? Or I just have to sit and wait? | |
