Sony PSP Via 3G
And other Wi-Fi tinkerings
by Karl Bode Thursday 26-May-2005 tags: fun · wireless
Over at Wi-Fi Toys, one user uses a a JunxionBox Wi-Fi to cellular gateway appliance to bring 3G connectivity (Verizon EVDO, to be specific) to his Sony PSP. They offer a video (WMV) of their adventures. The Wi-Fi Toys website is worth taking a look around; apparently they've got a Toyota 4runner dedicated to simply tinkering with wireless devices.

Daemon Notes::
I know it's been a long time coming, but there are still a few caveats. They'll get worked out, but for now i'm making everyone aware of them.
1) Wifi may or may not work. Wifi was working in the past, I haven't touched the WiFi code since then but it seems that now it's being flaky. So it may or may not work. Were going to look into this.
2) WET11, Wireless Game Adapters, and similar type devices will not work at present unless you set them to clone MAC addresses. I have ideas to get them working. Again, it's on the TODO list.
3) There may be an issue with the latest versions of WinPCap. WinPCap 3.0 regualr (not beta 3 etc) should work fine.

People have different taste, some people play basket ball, some mess around with technology. You have no respect, go kill yourself

and some people try to make phony P2P applications, which is even less productive than playing basketball, or doing productive things with technology.

Re: No life?

Do people who watch a game of baseball for 2 hours have no life as well?

Anyways I think this is pretty cool. Simple, convenient Internet access on the go. Too bad the box costs $700

3g

3g is not even in the USA. If it is, it is very limited.

Re: 3g

Not true. Verizon's EV-DO is in at least 20 different cities.....Sprint's EV-DO is slowly going live with full deployment in Q3....

Please note this map shows VZW 1xRTT (~110Kbps) service aka "NationalAccess", *not* EVDO which is known as "BroadbandAccess".

Re: 3g

Whoops, you're right. Pulled it from here:

Verizon still has quickly developed a significant footprint....

There's also Sprint's deployment map:
