China's Controlled Internet
Registration deadline nears
The Chinese government has given Chinese-run websites until the end of May to register their sites
or face being shut down. The new registration campaign is an effort by the Ministry of Information Industry to clamp down on fraud and other activities on the Internet which they classify as unhealthy, this includes anti-government postings. The initiative, which began back in March, aims to issue registration numbers to all China-based websites, including commercial, government and personal sites.
