| Re: Cisco on my TV? Ugh, wife swap.
Whoever came up with that concept should be forced to watch TV over a buggy Cisco router.
Oh, wait, they can use a buggy Scientific Atlanta cable box!!
I really can't comment on Scientific Atlanta's equipment, I haven't had one of their cable boxes in a long long time, but hey, who can resist a cheap shot?!?

| Re: Woohoo! said by Maggs :The Linksys brand is low end consumer, CISCO hates low end consumer products. They want to force you to upgrade. I don't think that is true or they would not have bought Linksys. No residential/small business consumer is going to pay thousands of dollars for a high-end Cisco router even if Linksys routers were not available. They would just switch to another brand (e.g. Netgear or D-Link).
said by Maggs :If they screw the firmware, TW, and the other cable cos will drop them like a rock. I hope they do this, but only because I hate having to use a set top box to watch TV (I only have it because I have an HDTV). It just reminds me too much of the bad old days of Cable TV. I seriously hope that newer TVs are "digital cable ready" soon! -- Rove / Rumsfeld 2008!

Of course those certifications are only good for a year after which we will have to continually renew them in order to keep watching. -- Rove / Rumsfeld 2008!

You forgot the endless "exploits" that'll keep causing your upgrades to constantly interfere with the swapping of everyones wives for survivors of hardball musically televised politically must see truth or elimatruth telescreened lovely sorts of death.

| Re: oh yeah I am a big fan of Cisco gear because it simply works and once setup properly is very reliable... yeah exploits come out every once in a while and I don't agree with what they did trying to bury that one vulnerability with the researcher guy but I would rather see Cisco in my living room than a Microsoft box for TV viewing. | |

| Re: oh yeah agreed. It does work as it should when set up right. I did go a bit far into absurdity with picking on exploits... there are obviously other ..softwares.. that seems to have a worse track record with security issues. I'd rather see neither in my living room for a tv box, but if it had to be one or the other... I'd probably go with Cisco too. | |

| Re: oh yeah It certainly can't get any worse the SA8300 has the worst menu system I've ever seen. I just switched from direct tv. The microsoft ultimate TV directv box at 4 years old was a thousand time more intuitive, and user friendly. Gee can you imagine being able to change menus, record without blanking the screen everytime and a menu system that didn't look like it was designed by a 4th grader. Its has to be and improvemnet no matter what. Hmmm except they'll probably lease you the box's for 25 a month for life | |

| Yea... We had a scientific atlanta box for 1 month and it was then switched to motorola. Better picture and better sound right off. Also the cable boxes from scientific atlanta have easter eggs that allow access to the decoding alg's...and also they don't always respond to the "bullet" sent by cable co's when you first get your service and have all the channels for about 12 hours. | |

| Set-Top down consolidation... Well, we knew this was coming... the top ip makers came in to buy the set-top box makers.. who knows, maybe motorola and lucent will be -in-play- again... or general instrument for that matter. Not that this means anything for the average consumer, unless per chance, Verizon was interested in buying set-top from S.A. hehe | |

| Cisco is fleeing ahead Being kicked in the balls by Juniper on the carrier-class market, Cisco is fleeing ahead by broadening its already impressive product portfolio - perhaps they know that Juniper, sooner or later, will be head-to-head with Cisco in the router business and then they will expanding to other areas as well. Clever step from Cisco. | |

| Re: Cisco is fleeing ahead Dunno, Cisco seems very confident that they will RULE the back-end high-grade optical and ethernet markets for some time to come. What is NOT clear is that the supporting infrastructure is getting more diverse with hardware vendors, which if cisco can buy-up early and/or drain off the talent from some of the 'innovators' that they will either own, or divert the eventual market their way.. much in the ways all the oil refineries dried up into a few dozen 'major areas' and 6 companies and what you have now is gas price hikes and wholesale gouging of the consumer. Not that I'm drawing any conclusion about CISCO but it it clear that they want to 'temper' innovation so what they PROFIT the MOST from it... who wouldn't: it's capitalism at its finest. But be, wary, they may be in for a tough ride, as the chinese are starting to make inroads.. and well, we'll see! | |
