| Re: Shafted said by Nightfall :Personally, I will stick with the neutered DirecTivo than go with a standalone Tivo or the Comcast DVR. Just my opinion. Yeah, hard to beat getting the bits from the satellite direct to hard drive.
And you can somewhat "un-neuter" it if you want.

| They need to keep their word to Mac Users before going down this path. If TiVo are working so hard on TiVo2Go for Macs why is it they can come out with something like this that even less users are going to care about? Especially since it's already been done for ages without their help. Work on what needs to be done, not what's already done. | |

| Doomed The files will be watermarked and traceable to originating computers to discourages piracy. More DRM. More punishing of legitimate customers. Stupid stupid stupid.
Thousands of people can already extract video from their Tivos and other devices and put them on portables. DRM sucking ()*q#$&().
Yes, I know watermarking's not really DRM. It doesn't matter. You give a copy of Oprah to your friend and they stick it on BitTorrent -- now you're targeted by Harpo Inc. Fooey to it all. Chilling chilling effects.

| Re: Doomed Err, actually no.
I'm against any DRM but this one sounds like a legitim one: it wouldn't limit my rights, I could transfer between my units endlessly, it would only show when I share it with the public.
This sounds like a fair deal to me.

| Re: uh oh! Yawn... MythTV has had this functionality since a few days after Video iPod was released and with NO DRM. IMHO, few consumers products can compete with open source. They just have too limited innovation. | |
