The only logical response I can see is because the new sober variant has hit MSN/hotmail pretty hard. -- Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy -Benjamin Franklin

@qwest.net | The official explanation is that Comcast has their head up their ass as usual & comcast needs someone to blame it on someone because their network administrator's don't know any better...

Connection attempts to hotmails servers give that. Doesn't make much sense, really. "Violations will result in use of equipment located in California and other states." What? That doesn't make any sense.

| Not just Comcast MSN/Hotmail The ISP I work for (Cogeco) is experiencing massive delivery problems with Hotmail, we're seeing minimum delivery delays of 3+ hours and that's GOOD! We're seeing maximum delivery delays of over 20+ hours.
Most of Hotmails servers are intermittent accepting mail, if we sent them 10 emails we'll see delivery for 2 emails and then Connection refused (port 25) or Connection timed out (port 25) for the other 8. As per usual Hotmail isn't saying anything, even their status page states all is good The service is available; there are no known network issues at this time. which is simply not true.
I know many other ISPs are seeing this and thus far attempts to contact, work with, get a heartbeat from Hotmail have been met with silence...we could probably help them out if they'd only talk to any of us. They even left me a voicemail last week but many messages later we still have no contact with them.
BTW, this isn't anything new, Hotmail rarely works 100% but generally speaking it's much better then of late which is why other ISPs are noticing problems as well. I suspect much of this is likely due to new virus variants of last week and their servers getting hit hard...that's understandable, I just wish they'd talk to the rest of us as when Hotmail has issues accepting mail it affects our services and we need to take measures to ensure non-hotmail delivery is not impacted by the pain of hotmail.
Hotmail people....if you're out there...there's a bunch of us that want to talk to you! See my profile and contact me if you'd like to work with us Canadian ISPs on this. | Finally admitting to blocking This afternoon we finally got some people on the Comcast Forums to admit that Comcast was indeed blocking all mail sent to Hotmail/MSN accounts. Comcast's own smtp servers are doing the blocking it would appear. They say they are doing this to keep the mail from building up in the mail queues until the issues with MSN/Hotmail are worked out. The big issue I have is they are blocking any message that even has one Hotmail/MSN recipient. So if you are sending a message to 10 of your friends and one is on Hotmail, the whole message is rejected. Surely there is a way to manage this better.

I don't know their setup but it would seem reasonable to assume they could map all hotmail destined messages to one specific server so that the queued hotmail would only affect queued hotmail. -- you can lead a horse to the water but you cannot make him drink...you can put a man through school but you cannot make him think --ben harper

According to what you just said all the addy's before the hotmail one should have been delivered but they were not. The whole message was rejected in my test. It was only after I removed the hotmail addy would any of the recipients get a delivery.
Dammit why are my email addy's removed? I have them munged!

This surprised me, too. It's an Outlook Express thing, but I'm not sure I'd call it a bug. Since OE is an end-user's client and not an SMTP server itself, this might be acceptable.

| msn problems Why is it that everyone is so quick to blame big bad Comcast. MSN is notorious for problems, ask anyone with a hotmail or msn account. The problem is not with blocking on comcast's behalf but a virus problem on the msn servers. MSN would of course not post this, why would they. That would mean they would actually be telling the truth for once. | |
