| Re: A new option for those who can't get others I haven't heard avg latency but I've heard latency can be as low as 50ms and even lower. They are using 802.16e at 2.5Ghz, same as Sprint.
If you plan to use as a fixed connection at home, you can add a WiMAX repeater on roof so that it gets LOS, which should be available to consumers this year. | |

| VERY attractive pricing model! I must say that I am extremely impressed by their pricing model. The internet options/pricing are fantastic, and $15 for unlimited voice is unbeatable! Assuming their service is good, I would expect this company to really take a bite out of the local market in their service area. I would buy this today if it were available in NYC......

| They are using Cisco equipment for their VoIP deployment. I used to work in a building where their counterpart, TDS Metrocom was testing their VoIP centrex service. Metrocom and Telecom are both offering business users leased Cisco phones with TDS running the call manager. They deliver the service over 3Mbps symmetrical lines.
I can only assume they will extend this over the WiMax service as well. The business cost from Metrocom for the 3/3 service is $129/month if you take phone service from them.
I am now in Middleton which is right outside of Madison. We have 5/5 service on paper, but get 10/10 service in reality. Connection is presented via Ethernet. We pay $575/month. It is quite a both more than above, but I almost never have contention problems.
TDS Telecom is a good ISP.

A lot less expensive than copper considering all the costs of upgrading a RT or Co and conditioning a subscriber line for DSL. Also it can be rolled out to folks who do not have a phone line with them.
Don't forget that DSL is very distance sensitive: to get 6mb/sec down the customer needs to be on good copper and less than 8-9 kft from the DSLAM. Upload is limited to under 1 Mb/sec no matter how close you are. Over 15kft EWL, speeds drop very quickly.
They are stating a 2 mile limit now, I suspect that this limit is just for getting things rolling. As they gain experience, this distance should increase. That is just speculation however.... only TDS knows for sure. | |

| Interesting... but it's been done elsewhere! I'm currently traveling in the Dominican Republic and obviously need to stay connect. My cousin lend me his OneMax WiMax box and to my surprised the darned thing worked.
Although the speed is only 768/128 the box came with a RJ45 and RJ11 ports. To many a long story short the box is a "walking" VoIP source high speed access point for my computer.
The Service includes unlimited Local Calling, as well as 3 hours worth of calling to the US/Canada for about US$70 and 3 pennies a minute for any overages.
Now if the Sprints/Verizons/AT&Ts/TMos/Others of the world could get their heads out of their @$$es and finally come up with a way to blanket America with WiMax I'd be a happy camper. | |

We now have Comcast now in town watching it close and checking on service may change over to them. I have been with TDS DSL since it came to town 4 yrs ago and it has never been a solid service. I'd like to see the pics. Charter just rolled out 16/2 service for the same price as TDSs new WIMAX. I went back to Charter. The first week on 16MB has been a delight. Even at peak night hours my latency is great. I really did like TDS, but Charter is the clear cut winner in Madison right now(imo). This is the last night on my TDS connection  My Charter connection has been maxed out for the last week. Speedtests are right around 16MB/2MB 24x7. | |
