This is called making up the news.

| Not to mention, to even connect from 30 to 100 feet away, both people have to be running the PictoChat app at the same time.
Most people aren't just running PictoChat and waiting for someone to walk by that is also using it.
Of the 1 out of 100,000 times that this scenario may happen, what are the chances it is a child predator finding a child?

"Nintendo confirms what happened to Emily is possible but the company claims that person must also be using another DS system and be within 65 feet."
so what they didnt say is that the odds of a pedo being that close to any kid and running a ds or other game and linking to said kid and sending said kids porn or enticements are astronomically high.....
and what they also STATE QUIET CLEARLY is that this whole incident with 'emily' all took place in a PUBLIC HOT SPOT with her parents....

| The reason why "1000 miles away over the Internet" is scarier than the "direct connect within 30-100 feet" is that it extends the reach of the pedophile. Joe Pedophile can harm a lot more children over 1,000 miles via the Internet than he can by trying to get within 30-100 feet of a child who happens to have a DS running Pictochat.
The "pedophiles are using Nintendo's DS to harm children" story was hyped up by the "news organization" (using the term loosely) while ignoring expert evidence that it just wasn't possible the way they were describing it. 1 edit | Make it two, lmao.
For those that don't know. Back in the early 80's a Philadelphia news anchor was caught in a Baltimore hospital with a dead gerbil in his rectum. In Wikipedia they claim it is an urban legend, however, I remember quite clearly when Philadelphia news legend Jack Jones, the first black news anchor in Philadelphia reported on KYW-3 news that Jerry Penacoli was in a Baltimore hospital after a gerbil died in his rectum from a cocaine over dose. The story is a fact.
After the incident Jerry was demoted at channel 3 and when his contract was up, it was not renewed. Soon after this incident was when all the fake Richard Gere stories started.

| Re: WPVI messed up!!! It did happen. I saw the newscast. You got to love all this revisionist history. The reason I know the story happened was KYW-3 Eyewitness News, the people Jerry worked for broke the story. Jerry's boyfriend drove him all the way to Baltimore hopping he wouldn't be recognized. No one wants to talk about it now, that was involved, but it did happen. -- Whatever doesn't kill us, makes us stronger... | |

| You know this is just a day in the life of a typical TV news station. Getting a tech story wrong because the reporters either have no knowledge of anything technical or the producers pushed them to create a hype story and blurred the facts to help out the ratings a bit this week. 1 edit | Action News feeling the heat WPVI channel 6, Action News, is a network owned affiliate of ABC. ABC can't put this off on some affiliate, they own the station and control it. Also, WPVI was the flagship of Capital Cities the company that owned ABC before they sold to Disney. It has been moving further and further to the left. They bash Bush more then any other of the stations in Philadelphia. They are liberal reactionaries with an aging ex-hippie news staff and are starting to feel the ratings heat from the other news outlets in Philly. They've been number one in the market with the "Action News" format since the early 70's, but the rust is starting to show and NBC 10 is creeping up on them. You will see more and more outlandish, fact-less stories from them this ratings sweeps month as they nervously hope that this isn't the ratings period that NBC 10 doesn't knock them off the top spot. -- Whatever doesn't kill us, makes us stronger... | |
