Adelphia Time Warner Transfer May 31
FCC approval expected, May migration

Adelphia customers in affected markets can expect to be handed over to Time Warner cable & Roadrunner on May 31, papers in New York and Maine report. Earlier this month, the FTC approved the $12.7 billion purchase of bankrupt Adelphia by Time Warner and Comcast without any conditions. The FCC is next up, and is expected to do the same. Customers being handed over to Time Warner should get notices in April.

Re: Comcast?

Comcast is a joint partner with Time Warner in the Adelphia purchase. TWC gets 50% and Comcast gets 50% of Adelphia. Each one wanted Adelphia but did not have the cash to buy it in chapter7.
As far as I can see in the FCC papers TWC and Comcast are joint venture partners in the purchase and transfer of all of Adelphia cable assets. Two companies that don't like each other and the deal almost was called off several times in the process but the money that each is going to make off of the deal won out.
Click link to the FCC

»www.fcc.gov/transaction/ ··· hia.html

Adelphia (#3 cable company) was in complete meltdown because of the way the company founder and family was using the company checkbook as their own. A few years back a Telco joint venture Adelphia had with power company was bought out by the people that was running the Telco now called Tel-cove. The telco guys saw what was going on and made both the power company and Adelphia and offer," How much do you want for all of you stock?"

Re: Comcast?

Are you trying to tell us what you see it as? or are you trying to tell us some sort of a truth?

I hate to tell you this, but I'd do some more research on this one. For the record, Comcast was in more of a position to take over Adelphia on it's own - really. There are many other reasons why they COULDN'T. I think that if Comcast can buy Disney, they can take Adelphia... Much of why they did this jointly was because of the so-called subscriber caps placed on them by the FCC - that was even questionable.

Re: Comcast?

Comcast buy Disney? They didn't have the cash. They offered Disney stock holders some cash and stock in Comcast. So really it was not Comcast buying Disney it was Disney board members agreeing to own Comcast stock. A Hostile take over bid to be exact. If Brian Roberts and Comcast had the money to buy Disney for cash and I mean a good offer not at a bargain price that would have been another story. Lets get it straight. Sorry to interject but that was messed up. I know this information for a fact I followed the whole proposed transaction.

»www.mouseplanet.com/dan/ ··· 12as.htm
Read this on mouseplanet

"Not many companies have that kind of cash lying around, so they aren't actually offering you $10 for your $10 of Disney stock. Rather, they are going to offer shareholders $10 of Comcast stock for $10 of Disney stock."!

It's not just a 50/50 split of Adelphia.

Comcast is getting some TWC properties and TWC is getting some Comcast properties, as well as both getting Adelphia properties, in this deal.

They laid it all out last year.

a lot of that debt is to Comcast (from ATT Broadband)... I am suprised Charter hasn't handed over some of their territories to Comcast in an attempt to get out from that burden.

Good to see my hometown paper here (NY). Glad we don't get Comcast. Currently, I think the caps are 4000/512 with Adelphia, so I assume they'll be going to 5000/384 with TimeWarner. Pings should be lower too, once we are on TW's routing. All of CNY (Utica) is surrounded by TW territory.

For those areas potentially subject to transfer between Comcast and TWC, your best bet on timing would be to catch up with the goings-on with your local franchise authority, since they will have to rubber stamp the transfer of the local franchise.

I knew Adelphia is going to Comcast here in Mendocino County in NorCal, but the other two Adelphia markets up here, Burney in far eastern Shasta County, and Lassen County (Susanville, Westwood) are going to TimeWarner. It makes sense for us to go to Comcast, as most everything from Sonoma County (our southern neighbor) into the Bay Area and halfway down the coast, and much of the Sacramento, Northern Sacramento and Central Valleys are Comcast.

We are going to Comcast via TimeWarner, any idea as to when our transition will begin or when we'll get notices?

Wow! More evil than Enron who pretty much wiped out so many people's retirement? More eveil than MS who constantly kills competition? AT&T who has done much of the same?

There are FAR more "biggest evil" companies in this country you know.

Comcast must be evil for taking a cable plant and pushing out more services than any of their former owners. Yea.. evil.

I'm sorry, but these baseless, empty, worthless comments bore me more than watching CSPAN in the middle of a congressional session.

The next time I pay my bill to Comcast Phone of MN that saved me an average of $50 a month and gave me more, I will remember to thank that evil company.

The next time I pick up my remote and play those VOD titles at no cost to me, I will remember to thank that evil company.

The next time I surf the internet at a full 8.2 mb without years of problems, I will remember to thank that evil company.

The next time I turn on my TV and see a full digital lineup on my television, guess what? I will remember to that that BIGGEST EVIL COMPANY...

Grow up already. Geez.

Just wait until you call the tech support. Hope you don't need any specific info.

I miss having Adelphia as my provider. Cost less, faster speeds, and they had more value added services. Plus, tech support after the reoganization was the best I ever experienced from any company.

And if the adelphia network sucks in your area guess what? it'll still suck with TW too until they upgrade it.

There upload is 384?? Thats what we are at now with Adelphia, but in many of TW's speed increases they have been very stingy in there uploads from what I have seen.

Re: .....

TW puts the cap at exactly 384. Include overhead, and you'll never see that speed.

Adelphia always set the actual cap higher than the advertised tier, so if your node was not congested, you consistently received speeds over the advertised maximum.

I just don't see..

I just don't see them expanding out as quickly as they say they are. Much of the communities the article speaks of, not to mention the ones around me as well are very rural areas, far from there Portland markets density. I already have HD, VOD, Internet and everything TW offers except there overpriced digital phone, which I would not dream of getting even if they do end up deploying it to all of us ex-Adelphia folks. I can't say i look forward to all of this, however I am anxious to see if they f%@& up a good thing and how quickly they deploy there phone service. It can't be cheap. Wouldn't they want to hold off to see the kind of cash flow they can make?

How accurate is this? I can't seem to find any page on their site directly linking to that file.

I really hope its accurate though. I've been dreading the mergers because I figured my area would end up with Comcast, but according to that spreadsheet, I'll end up with TW.

My take on this whole thing...

As a current Time Warner customer and a former contractor tech with a number of Adelphia systems in the Cleveland/Akron area, here are a two thoughts:

1) In terms of customer service, I think the soon-to-be former Adelphia customers will be pleased. My impression of Adelphia CSRs is that they are almost obsessively sales-driven and will literally promise anything to make quotas. As a field tech, I regularly was expected to deliver on things that the Adelphia CSRs had no business promising. My impression of Time Warner's CSRs is that while they also have sales expectations to fulfill, their primary motivation is to help customers.

2) In terms of product, Time Warner taking over will be a definite upgrade. I find RoadRunner much quicker and more responsive than Adelphia's high-speed internet product. TW's digital cable product is much more intuitive and user-friendly than Adelphia's.

Overall, I think Adelphia customers will be happy once TW takes over. Then again, I could be wrong.

Re: My take on this whole thing...

Thanks for the opinion. I've been totally happy with Adelphia Powerlink now for almost four years, and have had to call their customer supportfolk only 3-4 times. As long as TWC can offer the same reliable service, I'll be happy. I just wonder whether they'll keep the same tiers as Adelphia. Time for research!

mainers getting screwed

i was loyal to adelphia. moved into TW territory, didnt want them so im on dsl2 instead. Adelphia had higher speed tiers. TW limits upload speeds. With adelphia i paid for 6/1 and got 3/1.5
with Tw youll get 5-7/512. Plus its TW. Adelphia at least offered me a 16/2 line. Tw would want 900 a month for that.

comcast gives you giganews, my experiance with them has not been so bad.

Adelphia commercial regarding Time Warner

Adelphia has been running a commercial stating Time Warner takes over in the Buffalo area, you get the same great service that Adelphia has given. If this is the case, I couldn't think of anything worse!

Time Warner needs to distance themselves from Adelphia as it was one of the worst cable companies regarding customer satisfaction ever! I couldn't believe when they retained Adelphia's Tom Haywood as regional Vice President. This guy wouldn't even show up at town board meetings as unhappy customers would rip into him for service and programming.

Adelphia's customer relations and service is horrid. Time Warner needs to change this immediately when they come into the WNY market. The first thing TW needs to do in our area is upgrade the headend. Digital stations are so compressed now they look almost like analog. Time Warner also needs to add channels viewers want which Adelphia refused to carry. Such channels in question are NBA TV channel, NBA Season Ticket, Military History Channel, CNN International,FamilyNet TV, Sleuth Channel, Current, Trio,
Ovation, Fox Sports NY, WGN, and all the west coast feeds of the premium channels.

Los Angeles gets pwn3d by Time Warner

The spreadsheet looks like this for Angelenos: you now have one cable company to rule them all, in the Land of Burbank where the shadows lie. Time Warner will have ownage of the entire city, pretty much. Every Comcast and every Adelphia franchise will be going Beep Beep from now on.

This was the true jewel in the crown. They are going to make a killing on advertising revenues alone. Even the lowly East San Fernando Valley will be lifted by this deal.

Hasta la bye-bye Adelphia. Been nice knowing you...NOT. Crappy cable company, crappy cable modem, crappy service. We've always been suffering from West Valley envy around here wrt cable service. Now we can taste how the other half lives.

Changes

Changes will happen, but i think people expect changes to happen right away. I imagine the lineup will stay the same for a little while.

I'm reasonably sure that a franchise has a deal with the providers of the programming, and i'm not sure what those obligations are for each franchise.

FSNY to the best of my knowledge doesn't carry anything but hockey games locally. Im not sure if it has games in Buffalo.

The Mets are going to a new channel which i imagine the whole state of NY will get.

Give it a few months, but i'm sure people in central NY will be very happy.

Many of the channels like the Sleuth channel isn't anything to brag about. But i'm sure you will get more channels than you have now. The one thing for sure you will see is more SVOD channels. Don't expect them to re do every market in a month.

It is fair to say that you will benefit from being a TWC customer over an adelphia customer.

The hand over dates are a little more complicated between comcast and TWC. I just don't see that happening as quickly.

Just from prior experience. TWC will integrate the existing franchise and keep the plans the same. They are required to tell customers of major changes.

What will really int rest me is how they will move people from adelphia's online service to RR service with a different e-mail account, for those who use adelphia e-mail.
I know that new customers will get RR.

Speed increases will happen also eventually. The more competative your market is the more likely it is to get faster speeds. NY markets really focus on speed. because its a FIOS battleground.

How can the FCC sit back and let this go through?

How is this any different than the Rupert takeover of DirecTV? Why is Comcast given a free pass to continue to take over markets, create RSNs within and monopolize the market by using loopholes to keep the RSNs from DBS providers. So Fox Corporation has to watch its steps and play nice with all the other MSOs in regards to the channels it owns/controls so that the FCC doesn't come down on them, but it's ok for Comcast to create regional monopolies. Thats really fair to consumers who want to actually have a choice.

Re: What about ?

You will get a new email address (Comcast or Time Warner depending on your area). Mail to your @adelphia.net account will be forwarded for a certain amount of time, maybe a year. If your email name is already taken on Comcast or Road Runner, you'll have to create a new one. After a year you will no longer be able to be reached at your Adelphia address.

This same thing happened when Comcast bought ATTBI.
