| Re: If NEW YORK, March 6 (Reuters) - Cablevision Systems Corp. (CVC.N: Quote, Profile, Research) said on Monday its board authorized management to take all necessary steps to implement a $3 billion special dividend payable pro rata to all shareholders.
In a regulatory filing, Bethpage, New York-based Cablevision said the dividend will be paid subject to certain conditions, including obtaining financing on acceptable terms and final board approval.
Cablevision, which owns the New York Rangers professional hockey team and the New York Knicks pro basketball team, said in January its board was expected to consider at a meeting in March paying a special dividend, after canceling a $3 billion dividend in December.
On Feb. 27, Cablevision posted a fourth-quarter profit of $54.1 million, or 19 cents per share, compared with a loss of $305.8 million, or $1.06 per share, a year earlier, when it took a charge of $166.3 million to write down the value of its abandoned satellite business.
Revenue rose 12.5 percent to $1.49 billion, beating the average Wall Street estimate of $1.46 billion.
Cablevision also reported better-than-expected subscriber growth to its video, high-speed Internet and digital phone services.

He pays more than me and gets only 5/.384 (it used to be something like 3/.384 but they recently speed bumped it on the download side) while I get 15/2. If TW buys OOL, they will then drop us back to their 5/.384 speeds or jack our costs WAY up to keep 15/2. Since I now have BOOST 30/2, I can see TW trying to charge me over $100/m to keep my present speed.

I think TW would invest a lot less time and money than Mediacom even if they have more resources. This was the problem with TCI and AT&T; as far behind as Mediacom looks, these areas were even farther behind under AT&T. Unfortunately, I think Mediacom's management of their territories is going downhill. I just don't think TW or a similar company would make any real improvements though. One of the biggest problems though with Mediacom is that the squeaky wheel gets the grease. The better a franchise is managed by local government, the better the outcomes they get. | Why wouldn't it be okays, they don't compete with each other now what difference would it make? The only people that get screwed in these mergers are employees and business who have one less national provider. But for the general customer does it really matter. If they really want to break up these companies, how about breaking them into 2 companies in each area that compete against each other instead of giving each a monopoly over customers in there respective areas. What do i care if ATT is huge they could gouge the general customers already as they had no wireless comp any way? Same goes for cable companies. How stupid is it to give half of NYC to TWC and the other to Cablevision. Wouldn't it make sense to make them compete against each other?

| While yeah I would miss the great speeds that would be about the only thing. It would be nice to actually get new channels when there lauched, or even get certain channels like HDnets,DiscoverHD,TNT-HD,BBC America, etc. Personally i don't mind the higher price if the company would actually add new popular programing unlike cv which continually raise prices and give you stuff like Telemundo Peurto Rico,Logo and WB-HD. Compelling programing huh. | |

| Not Going to Happen Cablevision is one of the most sought after companies in the northeast. Their assets alone are worth millions. Any deal involving them will probably be in the double digit billions.
Also of note, this dumb rumour/suggestion surfaces at least twice a year. Chances are, no sale will, nor should happen. I'm enjoying my Optimum services too much to have to think that it'll be replaced by Time Warner's average at best offerings.

Why is AT&T buying BS for? They (SBC) already bought AT&T, isn't that enough? Perhaps they should pay more attention to fixing their flaky DSL first before going out and buying all these other telco companies. | TW sucks TW sucks, just to be plain vulgar about it.. everything they touch turns to crap with higher prices. They have NOT been on the innovative trend doing anything for the residential subscriber, except around the margins. As much as Long Islanders hate cablevision, a merger wouldn't exactly help marketshare (as far as gaining subscribers) and probably have the opposite effect if they raised prices, lowered speeds, as they've done with other aquisitions over the years. Pay more, offer less just doesn't work these days with Verizon entrenched on Long Island.
With similar disgust, the AT&T deal sucks too.. nothing to benefit the consumer, lots of poor workers get fired in the duplication of services, deployment slows to a crawl with super duper iptv xdsl, paralleling the 1996 rollout from pupa stage BellAtlantic. Well, since I don't plan on living in a ATT/BellSloth domain, I could care less. Without a commitment to innovation on the broadband side, I dont' see any further consolidation happening this year.

| Insight and Cablevision Time Warner Cable defiantly has int rest but the Dolan's have never been willing to sell.
Remember Cablevision owns lots of other assets beside cable, like MSG, and the Knicks. Along with lots of content.
Time Warner would jump at the opportunity.
However it is not likely to happen.
Insight seems more of a possibility since it is in Ohio area, and there would be some int rest, and a easier takeover.
However the ATT deal doesn't put any pressure on Time Warner or cable companies. They are already acquiring adelphia, and as far as charter is concerned, that would be more of an int rest to cox or comcast Geographically.
Charter could threaten to sell off some of its business to AT&T and that would pressure cable to come forward. Charter and AT&T had relationship before.
