Comcast plans to offer a 'triple-play' bundle of high-speed Internet, video and digital telephone service to the Richmond metropolitan area starting on Monday, reports the Richmond Times-Dispatch. The bundle will cost $99 a month with a one-year contract. Existing Comcast subscribers can sign up for new services for $33 each, so long as they become triple-play customers by doing so. The regular cost for the three services separately is around $130.

Of course this isn't the "out the door" price and telephone is what puts most of those extra fees in. true out the door price after the plethora of equipment/service and bs fees bring that closer to $140.

Good point. I didn't notice the "lite" part of it. I'd want the higher speeds.

Here in my town is 5000/384 too. With ATT I used to pay $75/mo only for the telephone service add to that $139 for the static 6016/608 and the nonexistent IPTV and the total was well over $200/mo.

I can't understand why not more telco customers defect to sanity

not everyone needs 6 down...$75/mo covers Express DSL AND unlimited calling here.

Old news (here)

They've been offering this here and without a 3yr contract. Personally I still think it's over priced and would not sign up for their services.

Cable doing contracts?!

Preposterous! I thought that was one advantage of Cable over DSL

T_Smith

Re: Cable doing contracts?!

Comcast never does a contract. Its a 12 month promotion, meaning after 12 months, the price changes. But there is no contract or termination fee.

Re: Cable doing contracts?!

Right, that way they have the extra money to pay you shill. And the corporate mongers.....oh..Sorry, I had a G_Poohbah moment.

It does say in the article that its with a contract, but I have never known comcast to have them either.

Is this new? $33/$66/$99 offers are the standard here

Click for full size
This isn't new. And I don't believe they require a contract here. We've been getting this junk-mail offer flyers for well over a year now. Still I wouldn't take it but its a good deal for some

There is all kinds of triple play offerings out there now. But what's next? How about quadruple play and quintuple play?

'Quintuple Play' is just around the corner in the Syracuse and Albany franchises and maybe others as well. Both of these franchises offer security systems and TW is supposed to start bundling Sprint/Nextel wireless service one of these years. Digital Cable, High Speed Internet, Digital Phone, Security and Wireless in one bill.

I like bundling, but even if these $99 specials where offered around here, I wouldn't go for them. They seem too low end. I have Road Runner Premium, a standard def DVR and an HD DVR between those three things that would drive up the cost of the package. Plus I'm guessing the digital cable part doesn't include all the movie, sports and HD channels. I can cut back on phone and cell phone features, because I don’t really use the damn things, internet and TV are my life, don’t even think about dumbing down my service.

Being a Nextel subscriber I would spend up to $300-$350 a month on the following package offer by Time Warner. Or less if you drop Digital Phone. In parenthesis is what I have and pay currently.

DIGITAL CABLE ($78.18, 2 year promo price)
- All of the standard and digital channels and On Demands
- All 43 Premium Movie Channels w/their respective On Demands
- All 42 Music Choice Channels
- HD Tier
- Sports Tier
- Explorer 8300 and Explorer 8300HD

HIGH SPEED ONLINE ($69.95, still at 8/512 awaiting upgrade)
- Road Runner Premium
- 15mb down/2mb up

DIGITAL PHONE (~$15-17, Verizon Land Line, basic service with Caller ID)
- Unlimited Long Distance
- Voice Mail, Caller ID, Call Waiting, Etc

WIRELESS ($116.73)
- 300 Anytime Minutes
- Unlimited Nights & Weekends starting at 7PM
- Unlimited Walkie Talkie
- Voice Mail, Caller ID, Call Waiting, Long Distance, Etc
- Nextel Wireless Web
- Nextel GPS
- 2 Phone Account

Maybe Verizon

Until now Verizon hasn't seen "the light" when considering a triple-play for under $100, if they want prescious "MARKET-SHARE" they might want to take a friGGen HINT when it comes to bundling, becuase that makes 4 cable companies that are doging this to stave-off fiber speed increases... (by being temporary price decreases in sheeps clothing)!!

to much money to many restrictions

I'm sure I'll be flamed but I think it's to expensive for television. A full triple play setup should be tops 50 bucks a month. Even that is to expensive.

Re: to much money to many restrictions

I agree, too much. I have DSL through SBC, phone from SBC and cable tv via comcast and pay somewhat less than the bundle Comcast offers. Also fewer restrictions on my DSL than cable, no invisible caps and I can run a server.

Re: to much money to many restrictions

i use to pay $215 for my SBC services... phone, internet and mobile phone... $105 additional for my comcast digital cable and that adds up to $315. Right now I'm paying $167 for my Gold package with extras, Comcast HSI, and Comcast Digital phone... For the mobile phone it is another $85 so it ends up $252. Savings of $63 for a year... Actually without the extras and taxes and fees, My Gold package is priced $60 and my Internet and Digital Phone is $69.95. Total of $129.95... What do you guys think? Do I have a nice deal?

Be afraid, be VERY afraid...

Richmond-based Cavalier Telephone will launch its television service early this quarter, combining it with DSL and phone for $95.95.

They cannot even get theit POTS service right. Why on earth would ANYONE think they could do a triple play!!!!

And for the Comcast side, when is RICHMOND getting a friggin speed upgrade to rival FIOS which is already here in some area?? Or are you playing the bundle game here as your answer to FIOS??

$8.29 per month for 2 lines and unlimited longdistance & Loc

There is an even better deal for this weekend only.

Go to »phoneserviceadvisor.com

Sign up for SunRocket and receive the 2nd year for free.

$8.29 per month for 2 lines, unlimited local and long distance for United States and Canada, voice mail and all the goodies.

Plus a $3.00 international credit each month.

Now you don't have to lock yourself into Comcast. Get Dish or Direct TV and save even more, plus you can get AT&T Yahoo DSL for 12.95 per month.

384-1536/128-384 speeds, and as of this date I think you still have to have the phone line (pending later this year) to get the 12.99 price. I think (rumored to believe) I think only new customers are getting the 12.99 rate

iseeunbundlers

I see unbundlers here... Sunrocket is an alternative to high phone rates. Eventually my dream is that sunrocket will be reliable enough to have a "second" phone line for personal use, to inevitably ditch my wireless provider (sprint) over a wifi, wimax handset.. but that's simply not gonna happen yet.. maybe next year. This is probably where directv wants "IN" on the cellular-voip market. Cell phone companies are feeling the pressure to upgrade networks and are having lots of kinks in the system to work out. I just can't stand not being able to make a call for 15 MINUTES becuase someone wants to download a "My Humps" video for $1.99 on their cell phone! That's just NOT ACCEPTABLE!!!

SunRocket, like Vonage, needs a fat pipe to function. So ATT&T DSL is out due to the fact they won't sell you naked DSL. SunRocket offers two phones, not two lines. Stiil, $199 for two years of phone service beats Vonage @ $24,99/month.

What's the chances SunRocket will fold before your contract is up? That's right, SunRocket is offering this deal @ $199/year with the second year free. Not the $8.29/month it figures out to.

Re: $8.29 per month for 2 lines and unlimited longdistance & Loc

It's interesting that SunRocket's annual plan is compared to this offer from Comcast. I guess it shows just how often people turn to SR as the low cost option in VoIP.
