"Walmart wages are competitive with others in the retail industry.
At Wal Mart, the majority of our hourly associate positions are full-time.
The national average for regular hourly Walmart wages is nearly twice the federal minimum wage, and higher in urban areas.
In addition to competitive Walmart wages, the total compensation package includes much more. Associates are eligible for performance based bonuses and Wal-Mart also contributes to the employee profit sharing/401(k) plan. They also receive merchandise discounts, company-paid life insurance, and vacation pay.
Add opportunity for advancement to competitive Walmart wages, too. Seventy-six percent of our store management team started in hourly positions."
Don't forget, the $5.15/hour minimum wage is a starting wage for someone with no experience or skills. Most companies pay people according to a persons experience and length of service.
Also, I don't remember it being an employer's requirement to guarantee anyone enough hours to qualify for overtime pay.

Overtime is for when something has come along that cannot posibly be met within the normal 40 hour work week. things like natural disasters that require the utilities to work overtime.
A pallet of good is not going to rot if its not stocked THIS WEEK. So get over it. Overtime is for emergencies, and I don't see too many emergencies happening at Wal-mart. -- "WHEN THE LAUGH TRACK STARTS THEN THE FUN STARTS!"

I got laid off from my first job out of college in '97 about 3 months in, the job market was tight back then, and had to take whatever I could get.
I ended up working as a lot attendant at the local Chevy dealership. Six years in college, and I was parking cars and scrubbing oily lube bays in the evening. It sucked, but at least I was working and not sucking down an unemployment check.
I only worked there a short time (3 months or so), but I think it was a good experience to go from a suit and tie office job to grinding kitty litter into oily spots and sweeping the shavings off the brake lathe machine.
Still wish I could use the lifts, though. Made working on your own car easy

| walmart a good deal for verizon I agree, it would be good for people not very educated about broadband in general. Too many people still think AOL dialup is a bargain deal. At walmart it would be seen by those and the other dialup users, that think any kind of broadband is too expensive and/or thinks it ties up a phone line. Maybe ATT will do the same. | |

| Verizon Marketing 101 At this time and for the next few year's , Verizon's main product is the Fios service ! Verizon , this maybe an actual good partnership if you could really deliver this service as intended. But did you take the actual time to see where most of the general Walmart's are located and there shoppers ? RURAL AMERICA - You don't have the budget to now re-invest in RT (Remote Terminal) xDSL service. Also , your Rural Broadband Iniative has been the deployment of Pre-Wimax / WiMax service , so really what's your Rural Broadband Plan ? If this deal was to get your foot in the door to marketing with Walmart , make that known , because your going to have a lot of disappointed potential customers , that will goto cable or local WISP. I give it a month after initial roll-out you will see a clear Fios advertisement ...hmmmm - get my suttle sarcasm ... If your intentions are to help the Rural Broadband Deployment , keep all your options open , because DSL alone won't service the general customer of this deal. On a side bar ... BellSouth / Ummm I mean AT&T , you should have made a move like this , you had the advantage of xDSL with the vast amount of RT's in place ... | |
