I don't do illegal stuff, but, when I pay $20 for a DVD, I expect it to play on any DVD player I own.

Flux DVD also takes 4 Hours to Transcode from H.264 to DVD .
Give us Movies encoded in DivX that burn in 10-15 minutes and play on the multitude of DivX Certifed DVD palyers .

I for one won't even bother with this madness. Vongo is cool for now, even though you can't "buy" movies, I don't mind. Renting is a good deal for now.
If they want to sell dvd's online, they need to make 'em full quality, or at least high quality (divx, or higher quality windows media) and GUARANTEED to burn correctly!!!

..well, in theory, there could still be DRM on the contents of that .iso itself. you're right though, it'd never fly because it could be burned over and over *gasp*!!!
Of course, the easiest way to solve both sides of the problem would be to price a (downloaded) movie at a reasonable price (even if only rented!) and give the customer as few restrictions as possible.
$5-10 for either full quality or darned good divx at full 720 by whatever resolution, artwork, and bonus junk. ...they would "break" the internet.

| 1 in 17 does not work? What other businesses find it acceptable that 1 in 17 of the times their product is used, it fails to work? DVDs are a product that should work in any DVD-capable player.
What if your car failed to start in 1 in 17 parking spaces you used?
What if 1 in 17 CDs you bought failed to play?
What if 1 in 17 TVs purchased couldn't play video?
What if light bulbs didn't fit into 1 in 17 sockets?
Any resonsible company would pull the product from the market before there was too much negative publicity. An apology to the customers would also be appropriate.
This company, without remorse, finds it acceptable to sell an intentionally defective product. Not acceptable.

This mention of bulbs reminded me a situation back in the 80's in the Boston area. In a number of low-income housing projects, they had bare-bulb fixtures in all the public hallways. However, they were proprietary; the bulbs looked like ordinary Sylvania 60W's, at first glance, but the screwbase was a fraction of an inch wider in diameter. Hence, they wouldn't fit in household sockets (only the matching fixtures). Remembering that this was low-income housing, there was only one theory I could come up with as to why: They didn't want residents stealing bulbs out of the hallways when they needed them for their apartments.
However, the, "if there's a will there's a way" scenario prevails. After all the fixtures were replaced with fluorescent's, we found a whole case of these bulbs (brand new!) in a dumpster near the projects. It was discovered that we could use these with those old-fashioned socket adapters used to add two outlets. The specific type were those that were of two plastic halves riveted together (leaving a tiny gap down both sides), with the screw threads molded into the plastic. These would expand just enough to allow us to screw in those funky bulbs.

| | Model #'s I'd like them to publicly list all the model numbers for the DVD players that will not work. I've been tempted to download and burn some DVD's, but am unsure if they'll work with a GoldStar GBV441 (which is a generic brand). | |

| +R OR -R I saw no mention of the type. DVD players may or may not accept +r or -r so wouldnt that be an issue on the end users can retify... by trying both types to determine which is required. Even both may be needed if they want to play on different players | |

Yet all I see in this thread is negativity. Why can't you guys give CinemaNow a break and give them a chance?

| | | | Re: +R OR -R Simply because the MPAA spent years looking for pirates instead of solving piracy the right way with R&D into delivering these films to the masses using acceptable pricing levels w/o treating them like the pirates they're hunting. See the logic? | |
|
| | | | | Re: +R OR -R But why do that when they can have all these examples of 'failed' attempts at delivery online, and then claim it is not cost effective nor as good all around as delivery via physical media...so they can continue with their tried and true method of selling movies in the stores without having to embrace the pirate filled waters of the internet . I can only imagine what nightmares we will all have once hd-dvd and/or blue-ray become mainstream. | |

| | | | | Re: +R OR -R Why mess with downloads when there is Netflix. I pay under $20.00 a month and I can average 6 movies a week. I don't have to worry about the MPAA suing me or my ISP hassling me over too much bandwidth usage. Not to mention it is way cheaper then going down to my local rental store. Also since they send you dvd's there is no quality issue unless you get a badly scratch dvd which can happen occasionally. | |
|
| | | | 1 edit | Re: +R OR -R I've never been hassled by an ISP, quite a strange notion. But in the end, this is like unlimited pay per view for the price of one dvd a month. If you want dvd rips, there is absolutely no need to pay for them. My local library has a bigger selection of dvds than blockbuster and all the newest ones within a month of them coming out. A person can rent 5 movies every day for free. In one week between me and my friend that was over 80 movies. Much better than netflix. If your gonna pay, an unlimited instant service is what you should expect. Not to make you cry, but you wouldn't see 80 dvds for over a year. | |
