Sprint Treo 700wx Vs. Verizon Treo 700w
700wx more memory, more responsive
For EV-DO fans on the cusp of a new plan for wireless broadband, Crunchgear offers up a video that compares the Sprint Treo 700wx to the Treo 700w offered by Verizon Wireless. The video claims that the 700wx is "a little more responsive" and has double the program memory. Also, as we've noted in the past, the Verizon EULA actually prohibits anything but browsing and e-mail, while Sprint's is somewhat more liberal.

Download more than 10gigs a month without getting a letter like this one for starters?

Sprint also allows the use of 3G Wi-Fi routers:

Yes, indeed. If we used one of those, we'd go to sprint as well for those benefits.

Soon as it connects to the VZ network, firmware is sent that disables bluetooth.

Re: Liberal. huh?

Hmmm. I have a Verizon Palm 700w and use it every day with a Bluetooth headset. So that much of it works.

But I've not been able to get my Bluetooth USB adapter to pair with the 700w. I guess you're saying that's why, hunh.

If so, that's pretty annoying. My computer has a 7mbps business-class cable Internet connection, so the last thing I'd want to do is use EVDO for Internet access from my computer. All I want to do is sync the stuff that won't sync via Exchange ActiveSync wirelessly. Guess that won't be happening any time soon.

Pretty much everything. They dont cripple the device, they actually encourage you to use and share your EVDO, and their pricing is much better.

video...

I watched the video 3 times and timed the units time to finish each command. It was just barely faster.

Someone must really be bored and have nothing else better to do with there time than play with this. Gezz its 1/2 second faster so big **CKing deal. Is a 1/2 or 3 seconds that important to you? IF it is get a cable or dsl connection and quit playing around with toy phones.

Sprint will soon change there plan to vz soon when people start to abuse the system.

just my .02 in this

Realize that he just did a hard reset. Get some apps loaded and opened and having that extra memory will be much better than the Verizon w.

LMAO! The pot calling the kettle black. You watched the video, not once, but 3x's and TIMED the frames?! And you have the nerve to make the statement that someone has too much time on their hands?! Yikes!

Watching only 6 mins of video vs. someone taking the time to figure it out which was longer that 6 mins, getting out the camcorder and up loading to youtube takes longer than 6 mins.

sprints usage policy=dont ask dont tell

basically sprint leaves their policy nebulous so they can arbitrarily enforce things when they want to. verizons policy only looks draconian because they have been grilled on it so much. sprints is essentially the same they just havent made it public.

the treo form factor is such crap. that is obvious because it appeals to so many people. kinda like the RAZR...EVERYONE has one but in the end it just appeals to the lowest common denominator.

and watching sprint and verizon out do each other on devices is like watching a relay at the special olympics.

Me too.

One question to anyone that uses one, can you run a VPC or remote client to control remote servers? Can you load any application or does it need a Windows Mobile app?

All windows mobile devices made in the past few years come with Terminal Services Client. This allows you to log in remotely to any windows machine.

If you are "stuck" with Palm OS, VNC is the "only" choice... sadly thats the truth.

Stuck with the more relaible and easier to use Palm OS and I love it. Windows is a horrible UI on the desktop and even worse on the mobile. Windows' UI metophor does not translate to the small screen well at all.

That being said, there is this:
»www.ddhsoftware.com/mobi ··· tml?UID=

And this:
»www.handango.com/pdablas ··· d=189195

Both provide MS RDC for Palm OS Devices.

I'll stick with my 650 and pass on all the crapware MS phones, thank you.

stupid candybars

Whats so popular about a Treo when there are so many other Pocket PC phones which are better software, electronically, and form factor? Who wants to carry a mini dictionary for a phone? Why isnt it atleast a slider if not a flip?

Not sure what you mean...
the 700w runs Windows Mobile® 5.2.2 Pocket PC Phone Edition
As such I'd certainly consider it to be a ppc...
perhaps you had something else in mind?

yep

i don't see why you cant remote connect to anything using the Treo. Of course it can be done, just be mindful of the specs.

Verizon crippling their own Treo is plain retarded.

Common sense along with a little logic would tell you that DOUBLE THE MEMORY = Faster Response Times. Of course, I'm talking only about RAM.

But w.e., even the double the storage space would be enough to entice me to buy the Sprint version and not the Verizon one.

Verizon's doing lousy these days IMO. They cry when the big bad regulatorz come in to town to try an keep the playing field even, but gone and cripple one of their, if not THE, best smart phones.

Unless you guys think Chocolate mixes well with plain ole vanilla Verizon.

that's my .3 cents....

Palm v WM

the palm guys are so hard headed. the Palm OS has some great features. one of them is the reset bug. another is the os crashes. antiquated os. cumbersome navigation. horrible form factor. i used to like the palm based treos then i used one for a while and came to hate it. now i have a wm5 device and it runs GREAT. dont have any problems with it. stock it ran good but i hacked it and it runs even better.

for those wondering about VPN and VNC on WM5 the former is included and the latter is semi included. the VNC is only included as TERMINAL SERVICES so this only enables communication with windows machines only but you can download actual vnc apps for the device.

palm os geeks are like the mac vs pc geeks. they are so hard headed they cant even OBJECTIVELY evaluate the other. they cant even concede that one does things better than the other. ive always been ok with people having their preferences but come on. dont be so stupid when someone is trying to decide which to get. give your reasons (valid ones only not stupid "i dont like windows" points) and then let the person decide.
