Yahoo, NFL Offer Full Season Video
To everyone but the people who actually want it
The National Football League said on Thursday it will stream a full season of live games over the Internet to gridiron fans - outside of North America. In partnership with Yahoo's NFL Game Pass, the service will allow fans from abroad to watch nearly every NFL game (the season starts this Sunday) for $24.99 per week or $249.99 for the entire 17-week season. The service isn't available in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, U.S. Territories, Bermuda, Antigua or the Bahamas, because DirecTV has snagged the exclusive out of market broadcast rights - something that consistently annoys football fans who don't want to get DirecTV.

MLB wants to sue Slingbox for this very reason, they fear slingbox could allow viewing of games in areas where the league doesnt want the game shown.

it depends on the country. It seems that even countries with access STILL have blackouts for live viewing!

Re: not in usa

I live in Israel and all games are blocked even though Israel is not on the list of restricted countries. I have emailed the NFL, and they responded to go to real media, and when I told them that was for another service they never responded. YAhoo does not have an official way to contact them, although they do have a feedback form which has an email field, but I haven't received abything from them and it's been 4 days. In both correspondances I wrote I will cancel if they don;t resolve this, but they do have a no cancellation policy. However none of the games work. they all say I am out of area but Israel is not listed as restricted at all, and had it been on the list I wouldn;t have signed up. Thank god, if all doesn't work out my credit card company will reverse the charges as they are very good about this kind of thing but still this is rediculous.

No, he's not. He's the best receiver in football right now. You just have to realize the baggage he'll bring with him. The best way to deal with TO is to only sign him to a one year deal every year. That way he can't claim he's underpaid and you can cut him with minimal fuss when he inevitably gets out of line.

Re: T.O. is Overrated!

Hmmm. Best? No.

Better look at the stats. How many 1300+ yard seasons has he had? Can he match Torry Holt's 6 seasons in a row with 1300+ yards?

Didn't think so.

Re: T.O. is Overrated!

Owens - .71 touchdowns per game in his career.
Holt - .42 touchdowns per game in his career.

Holt has played on consistently better teams than Owens with better quarterbacks. I love Torry but TO dominates.

Re: Not in North America?!?

proof that pro sports is about money and controling how we see the game and not about the game itself as entertainment.

imo the FCC should make all this blackout shit illegal, if you are going to broadcast a game then you should have no right to say sorry(insert city here)since you live in the same town as the game you cant watch it on the TV come spend 300 bucks for a family and anotehr 150 for the food.

Very few NFL games are blacked out in their local cities. Because almost every regular season NFL game in every city is sold out before the season even starts.

Unless its phoenix or some other city with a crap team. the only games we sell out in AZ is when a good VISITING TEAM like dallas comes to play here.

I've been watching Giants games for the past 10 years and can never recall a time when the game was blacked out. even in their worst seasons, games are never blacked out.

Totally. Anyone who wants to watch football (or any other sport) being played as a sport (and not a business) will watch [non-BCS, non-big-time, non-big-money] college teams or, better yet, their local high school teams. Like, yeah, I wanna spend my money to help payoff multi-million dollar contracts to a bunch of divas...nuh-uh.

btw just dont use a C-Band dish and pull the game from out of market if you own a bar. the NFL sued a bar owner once for showing a game in his bar because the bar was in a blackout area but he used one of the big C-Band dishes to pull from out of market.

i just hope the NFL lost that lawsuit because they cant really say sorry you cant pull that from orbit(if its in the air its open game).

If I were stationed abroad I sure as hell would think about it... the time difference may be an issue, but I can picture bars/pubs that are popular w/ US Military personnel stationed overseas buying this package and offering the games for viewing.

So let's compare... MLB is $80 per year, only blacked out in the city itself, and they've even gone as far as creating a viewer that lets you watch 6 games at once (which tbh, most people don't have the bandwidth for anyway), and the NFL comes out 3 years later with this?

Not so impressed...

Dsl reports is beginning to suck

Too many comedians and spammers now.

My reply.

Get sopcast or tvu player to see if your game is on. these are tv p2p sites.

There is also a popular sports board

overseas

i work in Korea. Daegu. Anyone know where that is? No, there isn't a sports bar that shows NFL games. No, there isn't a satellite service I can purchase which makes available NFL coverage.

AND I have a MAC. goodbye to TVU. Goodbye to some streamTV coverage.

I'm screwed. So yes, I'd consider overpaying for an underbuffered stream.

No-one else watches Gridiron

Haha, that crazy. Everyone knows that absolutely no-one outside the USA/Canada watches Gridiron. They all have a much tougher game called Rugby (Grid-Iron without the padding and safety equipment) that they play and watch.
