Re: WOW!said by SRFireside:You do know the Xbox 360 comes with a massive 20 Gig hard drive as well. Right? think PC, with a PC you start with the bare bones and add what you want to it. said by 88615298:Actually the 20GB version is $500. Try keeping up. The 20GB version of the 360 is $400. Of course their is no HDMI and the HD-DVD add on is almost another $200. Of course you can always add your own ATA HDD. You can get 120 GB one for less than $100 at wal-mart. the 360 is swappible, the HDD can be removed easily, the HD-DVD drive is seperate, the cables, are able to be swapped out for other cables depending on what you are connecting to. oh and if you want to get really specific, said $100 hdd at wallmart, format it to FAT32 and stick it in an external USB enclosure and you can run media on the 360 from it.

Re: 20G Hard driveKnowing Sony, it could be a standard SATA drive (it's supposed to be hot-swappable so I assume it's SATA not IDE), just with a proprietary connector, maybe even a firmware/software protection scheme to keep people from buying HDDs off the shelf and putting them in their PS3s...

That's what they did with the official PS2 Hard Drive. Basically, it used a very specific firmware which would allow it to be able to show up in the ps2's file browser and let you save data to/from it.
HDLoader didn't really care what hard drive you had, so long as there was one there.

Also.....The price cut is only going to be IN japan, no where else according to MSNBC. Stupid move on Sony's part to not lower prices anywhere else.
Edit: CNN, but I am sure MSNBC has this as well.

Re: Also.....Sony's first and biggest market is Japan, so smart move by Sony. The Japanese gaming industry (console, game developers) make games for the Japanese market...no one else. The US market is a drop in the bucket. Sony doesn't have to lower prices for US gamers.

Re: Also.....Except Sony is only releasing 100k PS3 units in Japan, compared to the 400k they are releasing here at launch. Can you say "deliberate famine"? I knew you could. Sony did the same shit with the PS2 and its memory cards on purpose. I smell the makings of yet another long series of class-action lawsuits because of purposely faulty units by them.

Can you say Japan has a smaller per capita population than the United States AND sold many more PS2s in the U.S. than in Japan? Sony announces that they will have 2 million units out by the year's end.

Re: Also.....When they're completely bypassing the UK market altogether (where they have been strongest with the PS2), it seems a pretty blatant omission, and I'd have to call bullshit on their claiming that they'll have 2M units out on the market.
Even if they do ship out 2M units, I'll be willing to wager that there will be more than 10% of those defunct or otherwise broken. This is Sony we're talking about.

That and $.50 will get you a cup of coffee. Tell you what. If they don't get 2 million units out the door by January 1st you can hunt me down throw it all into my face and I'll take it like a man. Until then it's just rhetoric and biased predictions. said by C0deZer0:...I'll be willing to wager that there will be more than 10% of those defunct or otherwise broken. Kinda like the original Xboxes that scratched your disks or the Xbox 360s that overheat? I don't see why you should get all worked up about the initial units anyway because it's obvious from your posts you have a major bias against Sony. You're not gonna buy one. And again... how about we wait until the reports come in regarding quality.

PS3 FTWYou guys have no idea what you're talking about.
The $600 version has the 60 gig HDD, the $500 version has the 20. Now that the 20 has HDMI, the only difference between the more expensive one and the cheaper one is the inclusion of Wifi, the larger HDD, and some memory card readers. Also the HDD is 2.5" SATA and you will be able to replace it just by popping in another 2.5" drive. They've already confirmed this. As far as Wifi and the mem cards, you can just buy adaptors at the store and upgrade the cheaper version at a later date.
Considering most of you obviously haven't heard much regarding the system and are basing your decision on price alone, I'd recommend you actually check out some of the games. Most of the vids coming out of TGS are by-far the most impressive I've seen on a video game ever.

Re: PS3 FTWsaid by Toadman:So you own one?, amazing! Post some picks. Otherwise your speculation doesn't overrule some elses. He's not speculating he's point out facts. This is from an interview from the head guy at Sony himself "you'll probably go for the 60GB version. If you're a complete music fan and video fan, and you want to have huge amounts of digital content, then you can upgrade to whatever size of drive you like. You can put any in that you like - it is a computer, after all. So that hard drive is a standard PC drive? ATA, bog standard, yeah." of course the 20GB coming with HDMI is also fact. What exactly are you disputing?

The press release states several times that you can use USB mem readers or wifi adapters. So no you don't need "special" adapters.
What you do need a special adapter for is the older PS1/PS2 memory cards so you can use them if you choose.
Also the only color is "clear black". So all the silver images you've been seeing don't mean you can get a silver or black PS3...which honestly I think would have been cool if they had given us the choice. Oh well, its certainly an option down the road.

No, but I do know the first TWO revisions of the playstation had overheating issues...the first version of the PS2 had overheating issues. Sony installed rootkits on users of their AUDIO CDs. Sony also made millions of defective batteries for laptops. They expect me to pay $500-$600 for a gaming console they are crazy, especially with their faulty manufacturing practices.

Re: PS3 FTWSo you know Sony didn't make millions off of defective batteries. They are the ones paying for the recall so on the other hand they lost millions not to consider what they lost in consumer confidence. Hands down the power that is packed into this machine would rival two or three of the PC's you are on (In most cases). If you really want to know what is going on and the features they do have a website that tells you almost everything everyone here is talking about so just go there.

My God, what are you ranting about? You're complaining about a game system that was released over ten years ago. The Xbox 360 was released with heating issues as well. You gonna slam Microsoft too? Don't bother trying to equate rootkits and laptop batteries to the PS3 developers. THOSE ARE DIFFERENT SONY BRANCHES. They have nothing to do with the division of Sony that makes the PS3. That's like complaining you will never buy from Taco Bell because Pizza Hut gave you food poisoning (being that both restaurants are owned by the same megacorp).
Considering the Xbox 360 went for about $400 with a hard drive, no 1080p native resolution and no HD DVD the PS3 coming in at $500 for the same sized hard drive and those other goodies mentioned I think it's a fair price.

Re: Business wise this is sillyobviously, they dont care about the system price, just as long as you peons are buying software at fixed prices for your system, they'll make billions... Of which Im not bashin em for...hell they gave me the chance to play GTA 3. That got me hooked to the power of the Playstation name. It'll draw all next generation games to it FIRST, and hell, who wants to wait 6 months for a port anyways. So their still cool in my book.
