| Bro, Google doesn't have nothing to worry about to begin with. Wasn't YouTube already taken to court and WON a case about having TV programs on it the day after they aired. They won, and were told they could still allow this to be posted on their site. Now the music video situation is something they are "being nice" about, but as it stands, I don't seem to have any problem watching them here, or at Yahoo, where you can watch them on-demand, free of charge anyway. Google technically is extremely wealthy, and it's not because they "constantly worry about lawsuits", because as we've see in the past, when they want something, they don't give a rats ass what the costs or implications might be. Again, I think this is just their way of shutting up the RIAA for now. Eventually it will re-surface.

| If Google's smart it can counter this legally by taking best measure to ensure that copywritten information is not submitted. It does this by screening uploaded content AND offering its own set of content (at no charge, ad supported) that has been approved by the original artists. Other measures to ensure that their content can't be downloaded without paying for it would also counter the legality issues.
Now obviously smart users know how to get videos from YouTube. Flash isn't the best choice to use. But there are other ways to prohibit downloading. There are some sites where I could grab the audio but no video, even though the video played fine when streamed. There were some sites where no matter what tool I used or what process I did, I just could not grab the stream.
Google just has to play it smart, and YouTube can still be as popular as it is now. | |

As long as you don't go over a certain time limit, just like MP3's can be spread around as long as its just an 11 second clip or less (or something like that). Thats also why youtube has limits on size and time, otherwise people would put entire tv shows on there. | |

Why do they have to try to do something like this? My last comment on this topic is this. So far, Google has taken a few companies ideas (look at Google Earth for example), and made them great. Google wouldn't have purchased this without a positive gain as the end result. We're talking about the same company who buys dark fiber, and sells "transparent" ad's in their search engine. A company who also gives free e-mail addresses, which also have ad's attached to them (on the side of the message, if you got an e-mail about a car modification, you'll see ad's for car products, or if you get a bill for your Vonage service, you'll see ad's for other VoIP providers when you open the message). They are getting paid bigtime, and this popular site is just the "cream of the crop" move for them. Call them stupid, but this is going to get bigger, and you can bet on that.

They've sued their own customers, tried to introduce a bill that allowed hacking into PCs they believed to be used for P2P (But was removed), quietly introduced a rootkit into their cds, screwed over their own artists time and again (Besides royalties the 98 DRM also screwed artists on rights ownership), restricted internet radio to the point where it's a shell of it's former self, lobbied congress to enact DRM to the point where you can't breathe because it's restrictive. Did I mention they tried to jack the price of individual I-Tune songs to $1.29 with the future intention of $2.59?? Hopefully this is informative enough for you.
RIAA cares about control, nothing else. Screw enhancing their music, they want you paying their price for music and if they see something as a threat you can be sure they'll go after it.
Youtube itself is one site becoming the new revolution away from turning into a $1.6 billion bath for google. | |
