| What about ...the crappy quality of the videos on Youtube?
Someone ought to set some standards for the quality allowed!
I swear, people are only seeing that videos are avalable, overlooking the fact that they are virtually unwatchable.
I hate when the masses settle for something and suppliers see that as the norm - then that's all *we* get. This applies to most things we all use, but Youtube for the sake of this news item.

| said by dadkins :What about the crappy quality of the videos on Youtube? [/rant] This complaint misses the whole "marketing" concept. They want to give just enough to get you to watch the actual show. The quality and length are enough for jokes but not enough to substitute for the show.
I wish the music companies would get the same idea: give away mp3s of a certain bit-rate and people would use them to decide what they like, and then would buy the full quality versions of some of them. I mean, p2p users already do the "try before you buy" thing, but because it's illegal they might as well get high quality in the first place and use it as a substitute for the CD rather than just graze. The music companies are missing a big marketing opportunity. They could quit paying Clear Channel too.

| said by CSU :How in the world can you deny free advertising? Well if someone is posting whole shows without the commercials then no this isn't helping those shows since they derive their income from advertising revenue which is based on TELEVISON ratings. And if I'm watching the shows on You tube and not on TV then no there isn't any benefit for those shows.
I know people here think that everything should be free and without ads, but this is real life not Fantasyland and shows are created to generate income for the companies that produce them not to merely entertain the masses for no return on investment because the media companies have some philanthropistic bug up their butt. NO ONE here would produce a hit show and not expect to be paid.

| Advertising As long as you are not posting an entire song or episode of a show, with the low quality of vids on YouTube, anything posted is simply an advertisement. How can any company complain about free advertising? Like someone said above, Viacom should be paying YouTube for the advertising, just like they would have to pay another network to run one of their commercials on it.
In a very similar sense, I also agree wholeheartedly with the concept of giving away low-bitrate mp3s. Most of the reason I don't buy many CDs anymore is because I don't want to end up with a disc that has 13 tracks on it, 12 of which I don't like. With p2p, I can decide if I like something before I go blowing $15 on a crappy CD. -- "I invented it, Bill made it famous." --David Bradley, the inventor of Ctrl+Alt+Del.
