| Resellers have it I had 7100/768 from DSL Extreme via Verizon for a long time (here in So Cal). It was $149 for a while then dropped to $99 which sounds pricy but it included 5 static IPs, unlimited use, unlimited premium usenet and they permitted servers. I think it is still available for $99. $41 for residential from VZ which is the price claimed early in that thread is a pretty good deal.

| Which speed tier is it? So is it 7/1 or 7/768?
The article above on DSLR says 7/1
For Verizons sake..It better be 7/1 ..as 7/768 is useless..wow a couple more mbps down..the added upload would be nice..

Would the download speed be a 133% increase? That is a big increase. It would be a 4mbs increase not a 2mbs increase.

| Re: Which speed tier is it? If memory serves my 7100/768 was provisioned at 8100something 864. In speed tests provisioned interleaved I got around 6400kbps down and 710 up. On fast path I got 6700 down and 750ish up.
Unless Verizon keeps the price low, it still won't compete with cable all things being equal (in terms of AUP and uptime etc). Basic cable plans are running in that 6-7Mb range in a lot of areas now-a-days.
Doing the currently $30ish plan for 3Mb and $41-$45 for 7Mb would do pretty good against faster cable competitors. If we've learned anything from the cable vs DSL war it's nothing gets more subscribers than a dirt cheap price.

| Don't like this one bit Not the potential offering of 7.1, but what is mostly a rumor with not one single person actually getting the speed is being posted as a news item. Hell, Verizon reps have told people all kinds of crap that isn't true. You can't be expected to believe them 99% of the time about anything, but your going to base your story on 7.1 availability on them? I guess facts like just one user actually reporting having it really don't matter much. | |

| Service Deployment Various comments listed above are partially correct. This service (7.1M/786k) is not an entirely new service from Verizon (was available to business), but now slated as a consumer product. From a business standpoint (for the obvious business minded person with a company) this is being offered to serve a "fios-gap" persee. Delaware was the beta area for this new service and has been available since the begining of this year. Last week it has been slated to "move forward" for new service orders and existing customers whom wish/can get an upgrade to the new speed in the New England / New York areas. This new service will require a "truck roll" to install a NID splitter, as this is the only way your service can truly be verified and approved by the company. Existing customers whom qualify, you will have to have your current service disconnected and "cut-over" to the new ASAM.
"Reality Check" - As we all know xDSL at these speeds or VDSL for that matter need to have the line conditioned, with that in mind, and the age of your copper, you may not get the full speed, as the cut-off is 8000Ft for this service. I wont go into what the VZ accepted rate for service is, I will let you argue that with your installation tech (be nice though ...lol) Since this service is new as it incurred a company wide upgrade, your CO maybe not be complete yet. Also don't expect this service to overlap where a CO is completely FiOS ready (remember my business comment above). Not sure when the company database maybe updated for you to verify if you qualify, but in the meantime happy surfing ... Happy Holidays Everyone !
FYI - I'm an independent consultant, and former field special services tech, that has to stay abreast of certain things like this and just share my little info that may help you.

| It isn't like many of us will ever see it. Like I care at all. I'll still be stuck with 1.5/384. Verizon will only take action somewhere if they are losing customers to another company. I actually had a few emails back and forth to Verizon about trying to get a RT in the area or find out if FIOS will ever be in the area. You can ask for an email of a higher up to talk to but they tell you they don't have any contact information. I finally said something about cherry picking in the email and later that day they decided to call me. Still tried to tell me that they had no contact info for anyone higher up. I emailed again and got no replies. Unless Verizon is losing customers in your area forget seeing this. | |

| 7mBS serivice from Verizon I am a VZ tech (stocks going up up up) Anyway, yes we are offering 7m service. I do not believe we are cherry picking. We are provisiong for that service nationally. I have provisioned dslam equipment in WA ST, IN, NYC, BKLYN, MA, RI, and MD off the top of my head. It's coming especially since Fios will nvr be able to penetrate in the forseeable future like dsl has (cost/labor/contract) Definitely doesn't seem like we are cherry picking as some of the sites we have upgraded are in the middle of nowhere.. | |

@optonline.net | Re: 7mBS serivice from Verizon How about Dutchess County in upstate NY. We were on tap for FIOS in 2008, but my sources tell me Verizon has abandoned those plans until at least 2009 in order to focus manpower for FIOS on parts south like Westchester County and NYC.

| My company has three Verizon 7/768 business DSL packages in Indiana. All operate from the same CO (3 locations) and all are under 4,000 feet.
Sync Rates from the Netopia modems are identical. Download speed typically peaks around 6300 - 6500 kbps and upload peaks at around 650 kbps. Service has been solid.
