I thought long as you have the internet you can get IPTV? Why would it be limited on deployment?

Yes ATT has plant ready in 11 cities, but the only actual customers are in a controlled environment in San Antonio where the Chief Engineers tinker with it on a daily basis to keep it working.
It's definitely not ready for PRIME TIME. Verizon and Cable Co's have the upper hand on ATT's sophisticated mouse trap called IPTV.

I already have yahoo dsl, and att basic landline phone (just for emergencies). I have Directv for my viewing pleasures. All told right now they run about $100 together.
Now looking to see if it is available at my address and how much it would cost.

This is actually word that the parties are close to a deal. But, as I said, nothing's set in stone. Could be tomorrow, could be next week. But apparently major hurdles have been cleared. I'm curious as to how all the major hurdles could be cleared if we still have a stalemate on the board that approves the merger with one of the members not voting. As long as one member doesn't vote, it is going to be a 2 to 2 split and this isn't going anywhere fast. Unless, of course, ATT and Bellsouth got smart and figured that they needed to make some concessions.
We shall see. I wouldn't mind giving Uverse a try when they get it rolled out here. Right now it's Comcast or satellite. I always thought this was a "competition is good" site... True... But in all honesty, Bellsouth definitely could come up with something better than that crap UVerse and having been a Bellsouth customer for years, ATT isn't going to be an improvement. If the merger is turned down, which has no ill effects whatsoever, Bellsouth will simply proceed with the plans they have in the pipe for their triple play. Unfortunately, neither company has the long term vision of Verizon. -- Prove it...

| Re: Almost done.... Interesting list of concessions from a cursory examination of the list... There are only a few interesting concessions - universal DSL rollout and unbundled DSL. The UVerse concession is nothing great since its a non-starter from the starting line. The lack of a FTTH guarantee to hold their feet to the fire really gut is a disappointment.
You either have to be on crack or a fully indoctrinated bellhead to be excited about the merger because nothing great is coming out of this merger if you are a customer... -- Prove it...

| Actually, I'd say the number is 12 markets and not 11.
Yesterdays press release re: the Ct. Rollout cited the Danbury market as being in with the Stamford one.
That isn't correct. Danbury is in Western Ct. while Stamford is in the South Eastern part of the state.
Given that, I'd say that the number is 12 and not 11.
I've also verified a couple addresses in Danbury as being Uverse ready.
Things could be looking up and getting interesting here in Ct. and at the very least, be putting some heat on Comcast.

Good God..get a life man. I can guarantee you that arguing this point with me..an 11th generation Ct. resident, direct decendant of the founders of Hartford, Farmington, New Britain, Southington, (and most surrounding towns), Waterbury, Naugatuck, Kent, Bethel, and your own city..Danbury...(founded by my Gx7 Grand parents)..
is more than a losing battle for you.
And, if you still continue to think you'll win it, please visit the Congregational church at the corner of Deer Hill and West street/Danbury..founded by my Gx7 Grand Father in the late 1600's for some divine intervention because you will surely need it doing battle with me on this front.
And, if that ones too full for you, visit the church my Gx5 GF founded in Bethel in 1759, on main street. You'll get an equal amount of divine intervention there I'm sure.
And, if none of that works for you..please visit the hartford founders monument and perhaps my Gx8 GF's name will shine down upon you, helping to enlighten you on the subject of Ct..and her geography.
If that Still doesn't work, please feel free to visit the lot the Charter Oak stood on in Hartford. After all, it was his land originally in 1636, where his modest home once stood after he moved there from Cambridge Mass after having founded that area as well.. and word even has it that he probably planted the charter Oak, based on it's estimated age.
As for your last ill fated question, New LONDON..is in EASTERN Ct.
Any other Ct. history or geography questions..please feel free to PM me and I'll be more than glad to assist you.

| Stamford Sorry Rick, meskinct is right. Stamford is located in the "tail" of Connecticut, and is the second most southwest city in the state. I am not here to argue, just to set things straight. Stamford is in the New York DMA, as is Danbury, while New London is in the Hartford/New Haven DMA.
Wikiepedia says this about Stamford:
NECTA Bridgeport-Stamford Region South Western Region Settled 1641 Incorporated (city) 1893 Consolidated 1949 Government type Mayor-Board of representatives Mayor Dannel Malloy (Dem)
End of story.

| lets all remember! in there said "markets" how many can actually get the service??? 5 homes, 10 homes? 300? so in turn is it fair to call it a market to start with??? i say H3LL NO!! burn att how dare you!
i say let the merger "bellsouth-att" happen but, to have u-verse installed by there said dates and there said ACTUAL passed #'s not inflated "hidden" cherry picking #'s, and .0001% zip code rollout and 1 or 2 vrads within those rollout areas. And be able to claim a "market" please.
and to fine att 150k everyday there service is not installed and #'s passed per there quota, and i mean ACTUAL USERS ABLE TO GET THE SERVICE.
example they claim texas a "market"
san antonio 1-2 zip codes which maybe .00005% can get this service. out of 1,256,509 population, 1.25 million
houston 1 zip code, out of how many? and how many with in the VRAD? population = 2,016,582, 2.016 million people.
these #'s dont reflect the counties,,,only the city
to be within or call a market i would say 50% by said dates to CLAIM a market! at least, or suffer the fines everyday they are not in each city each day,,,simple enough, end of story, this also should go for verizon.
flame me i dont care....if there is no incentive to push these companies they will continue to do as they please.
this is a joke. with there said rollouts and #'s of homes passed by there said dates

There are currently 3 providers in my city with AT&T building now, and another to come in a couple months; however no price drops, just a bunch of junk mail. | as per there original quotas and current markets Project Lightspeed In June 2004, AT&T announced Project Lightspeed, the company's initiative to drive fiber deeper into its network with a planned investment of approximately $6 billion. AT&T plans to reach nearly 19 million homes by the end of 2008 as part of its initial deployment. Alcatel was named as the Systems Integrator for Project Lightspeed.
»en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U-Verse
Current Available Service areas
Texas
Houston, TX - pop. = 2,016,582 homes = 717,945 San Antonio, TX - pop. = 1,256,509 homes = 433,122
California
San Ramon, CA - pop. = 44,722 homes = 17,552
Connecticut
Hartford, CT - pop. = 124,397 homes = 50,644 New Haven, CT - pop. = 124,791 homes = 52,941 Stamford, CT - pop. = 120,045 homes = 47,317
Wisconsin
Milwaukee, WI - pop. = 578,887 homes = 249,225
Indiana
Anderson, IN - pop. = 59,734 homes = 27,643 Bloomington, IN - pop. = 69,291 homes = 28,400 Muncie, IN - pop. = 67,430 homes = 30,205 Indianapolis, IN - pop. = 791,926 homes = 352,429
total pop = 5,254,314 5.25 million total homes = 2,007,423 2.00 million homes total 11 markets
now we are very close to 2007 and mmm well they can claim 2.0 million homes passed,,,again how many actual people/homes can get the service??
again att cheat, lies, steals.
another very good example why this is impossible for att to do look at the number "crunching"
this is for the city of Houston, Tx alone
1 square mile = 27,878,400 square feet 1 vrad/nodes = 9,000,000 square feet to cover 1 square mile = 3.0976 vrads/nodes
Houston has 601.7 square miles ("city only, land mass only",,,"does not include water area") = 16,774,433,280.00 square feet (that is 16.77 billion) vrads/nodes needed to cover 1,863.825
now if anyone cares to do the rest of the avail. markets on total needed vrads to pass these 2 million homes?
