The 'iPhone' Tuesday Jan 09 2007 13:36 EDT Impressions on the notes from the Apple/Jobs keynote speech can be found here. (All kinds of blogs cover it live, engadget for example). Surely the biggest reveal is the new iPhone which will be a cingular/EDGE smart phone with what looks to be a mobile version of OSX - Safari browser, integration to location based services such as google maps, touch sensitive screen and "seamless" wifi-edge transitioning. In other words, this phone appears to offer just about every dream dreamed by every frustrated phone-using geek around the world. Apple claims the device will see 5 hours of "active use" battery life, or 16 in audio-only mode -- though we'll see what that equates to in real-world performance when the phone is released this June. |

Cingular......is a deal breaker for me. I'd rather burn my money than give it to AT&T. | | ke4pym Premium Member join:2004-07-24 Charlotte, NC 1 edit

Big deal12:01:01am on a random June day that it is finally released - first phones go on sale.
12:02:35am on the same day people start complaining about how easily the phone is scratched.
2 weeks later people start complaining that they have to wait 3-5 days for Apple to fix their broken phone and then the complaints about data loss will start rolling in.
Plus, to really use this phone, you need to buy the phone, a 2 year contract AND a $40/mo data plan on top of your minutes. Big blah.
Oh yeah, someone file a complaint with the FCC for Steve using an unlicensed device for his demo. It's pretty and all. But it leaves a lot to be desired. | |
