ISOHunt Back Online After run in with the RIAA Monday Jan 22 2007 13:19 EDT Popular BitTorrent search website ISOHunt is back online, after the website was taken offline last week by their ISP and the RIAA and MPAA. A post from one of the administrators says half of the site's new servers are still offline, but notes that they received a considerable amount of donations after the incident. The site is now hosted by a Canadian provider. Of course, the RIAA's effort probably generated a good deal of press for them, driving many people who hadn't heard of BitTorrent to the website to see what all the fuss was about. While ISOHunt was down, other BitTorrent search engines reaped the benefits. |

Free Publicity!"Of course the RIAA's effort probably generated them a good deal of press, driving many people who hadn't heard of BitTorrent to the website to see what all the fuss was about."
I tell you, the AAs are shooting themselves in the foot by doing this cause people will only move elsewhere and it only encourages the very thing that they are futilely trying to stop.
"Today, 100,000 new BitTorrent users found this tracker and it's time to write more subpoenas!"

Whack-A-Mole!Take a BT site offline permanently, what happens? 3 more spring up? LMAO! I go to "other" sites anyways when I want "stuff". Faster, all download - no upload and there are LOTS of these places to "find stuff". ISOHunt is a listing site, they don't HOST the files. DUH! Sure shows how uninformed the suits are about file trading. Ya know, all of those same torrent links that were/are listed at ISOHunt were still available elsewhere...

And isn't it so funny that people will donate and pay for pirated software, but won't actually buy it. That just makes me laugh, knowing that open source is what we really have with Windows if you consider it can be found for free anywhere.

As I predicted. They are back online. Good for them, I've always been a big supporter of their cause. SCREW the **AA's, what they are doing is no more illegal than google indexing the web.

How do they afford their infrastructure?Back when they were still in limbo they had a message on their homepage that said they received around $4200 in donations, but the new servers cost over $40k. It appears that there is relatively little advertising on the site. Where the heck is all the money coming from to pay for such an infrastructure?

Eventually all pirate sites will be downedIt's just a matter of time before all pirate websites are shut down. If you have to have a license to be on the Net - and soon you may - then pirate sites will be history.

If you have to have a license to be on the Net - and soon you may - then pirate sites will be history. Yeah, 'cause that's the big issue we really need to be working on. Let's make sure everyone using the internet is licensed. Of course, that would require you to ID yourself with your license number every time you log on and that would allow anyone to track not only what you do online, but where you log in from. Meanwhile, irresponsible people are reproducing to their hearts' content and leaving their offspring to be supported by welfare, etc. No license required for that, but we should license internet usage? Give me a break...

Hate to tell you this friend, ya don't need a "site" to "share" data! I can rip a CD/DVD and flatout SEND it to someone! No site needed! Licence? Wouldn't that mean *you* would need to identify yourself to even post HERE? That sword cuts both ways pal!

Re: Eventually all pirate sites will be downedYes in fact what will happen is going to put out movies no one would want to download. Last year it was Broke Butt Mountain, this year it is Zoos, a movie about bestiality.

Re: Eventually all pirate sites will be downedsaid by Transmaster: Last year it was Broke Butt Mountain, this year it is Zoos, a movie about bestiality. I thought Ben Stiller was pretty good in Zoolander.... Seriously, for every movie that can be sold legitimately, there will ALWAYS be a copy available through illegal means...People better get used to this as it is something that will not ever be changing. The internet & computer hardware revolution of the late '80s & all throughout the '90s let that Genie out of the bottle, never to be returned. Once the first commercially available cd burner made it's appearance it was just a matter of time before someone would figure out how to use it to copy a movie, song or program. The cliches are endless but human ingenuity will always prove "where there's a will there's a way" to be true. HINT: Take away the core justifications/reasons why people do what they do and replace those with more positive alternatives & they will be (and feel) far less likely to do the things that some people feel morally justified in doing to 'stick it to the man the way the man is sticking it to them'.

Dream on, Taylor troll!
How long have you been working for the MPAA, BTW?
You seem to share their ridiculous rhetoric that one of the co-founders of the Pirate Bay called them "rabid, obsessed, lunatics" about. Perhaps that phrase fits you as well.

Yah but with the RIAA/MPAA keeps forgetting the Internet exists outside of the United States. They keep thinking it should abide by US law, and that US law is the only way to go. They seem to forget that other countries have different views on copyright and different sets of laws to deal with it.
Even if America made people get licenses, other countries wouldn't follow.
I don't think you'd ever be able to control pirating.. its all futile, as is internet regulation.
