Free T-Mobile Hotspot Access for Vista Users
90 days post OS launch...
As part of their promotional Vista launch, Microsoft has struck a deal with T-Mobile, which will allow Vista laptop owners to access T-Mobile Wi-Fi hotspots free for 90 days after the OS launch. T- Mobile offers access at 8,234 locations, including Borders, Starbucks, Kinkos and several airports. Of course you could just stick with XP and log into the world's largest ISP (linksys) instead for free, but what do we know.

And, that's the way it should be.

There's plenty of people who have the standard SSID of "linksys" and never bother to put on security. Free access for all.

Right -- around here it's either "linksys" or "belkin54g"... Great ISP's...

Re: Liksys?

Don't forget, many times those same ISPs have a public file server on a machine with a host name of Localhost. Usually it's a huge collection of porn, movies, and mp3s. One time I found this picture of some guys wife that could have been a twin sister to my wife...

I've used them quite a few times. They are great though the speeds can vary quite a bit

Re: its true

Actually, I bought a Linky a short while ago and they made it pretty hard to not set up security. I had my own setup in mind and didn't want to use their "wizard".

The article left out one thing

Of course, T-Mobile is going to require the user's credit card, and if not cancelled after the 90 day trial period.

Life in the big city

I have 5 free ISP's here in Atlanta. Amazing Network, Roma, Phillips Technologies, Maas and Wireless. Who said there's no broadband competition?

Couldn't people trick T-mobile to think they had VISTA?

Couldn't people trick T-Mobile to think they had Vista? On firefox they have the User Agent plug-in that allows you to change what sites think your OS and browser might be. So maybe people will trick tmobile that they have IE 7 with Vista... Might just be free for anyone for 90 days!

90 Whole days!

Cool!
Too bad you have to buy the DVD and install it next Wed/Thur so you can use the wireless for those 90 days.

Or, you can avoid the Starbucks(and the $5.00 coffee) altogether and use whatever OS you have and just go to a Public Library or Mom and Pop coffee shop and get free WiFi... anytime!

Me? I've been getting free(legal) WiFi for years!

Yeah, no kidding.

Quite a few bars and resturants in my area now have free WiFi, too....

Lack of coverage...

Of course you could just stick with XP and log into the world's largest ISP (linksys) instead for free, but what do we know.

It's funny that this keeps getting put in every news posting about some new commercial wireless provider. However, I've been in several airports, quite a few bookstores and even the occasional Starbucks. None of these locations had a "linksys" or other open AP visible. You're virtually certain not to find one smack in the middle of a large airport (DFW, anyone?) that's nowhere near any residences.
