And the telco starts selling DSL on Amazon.com
(old news - 10:18AM Thursday Jan 25 2007)
tags: business · telco · stats
The slow bleed continues for AT&T landline customers as 227,000 departed during the fourth quarter, though the freshly-merged company notes they did add some 383,000 broadband customers during the same period. As Verizon did before FiOS gained traction, AT&T is still clumping U-Verse users in with their traditional DSL and broadband satellite customers for appearance's sake. AT&T launched their Unity program last week to try to help retain some traditional landline revenue. Meanwhile, AT&T announced yesterday they'd be selling DSL via Amazon.

Perhaps

Perhaps the 227,000 were tired of having their fruit taken by ATT

Hmmmmm.........

I'm wondering if I smell a rat. Did they actually add 383k or did they acquire them from Bell South?

Net Additions

4Q earnings report would have been AT&T only since the BLS deal did not close until 12/29. The 1Q 2007 earnings report will include the BLS numbers.

Re: Net Additions

Yeah but the quarter ended on December 31 after the merger closed. I think these results are both T and BLS combined.

Re: Net Additions

If you read the AT&T 4Q Earnings Summary presentation, you will see a slide on page 4 discussing the BLS Merger. In a nutshell, AT&T reported the BLS impacts as "other" and focused the report on AT&T earnings/performance. A separate section is dedicated to the 4Q BLS results. Also, the summary states starting with 1Q 2007, the results will be combined. AT&T has been consistently adding 350K+ DSL subscribers per quarter. 383K new DSL subscribers seems to be accurate for AT&T only.

Re: Net Additions

Seems confusing because they included this also which indicates that these are pro-forma results:

"On Dec. 29, 2006, AT&T completed its acquisition of BellSouth Corporation. Therefore, BellSouth results and 100 percent of Cingular results for the final two days of the year are included in AT&T's fourth-quarter 2006 consolidated revenues and expenses."

It shows BellSouth with 183K net adds for the quarter. But I am sure that they would combine the 2 since the revenue is for both companies combined. Who knows.

If you call 768 Kbps broadband
Based on the FCC's definition of 200kbps being broadband, then yea, you can call 768 kbps broadband

If the FCC says so, it must be broadband then.
