(Insert Noun Here) Will Choke The Internet
Bird flu and capacity armageddon
Whether it's the fault of network neutrality advocates or video demand, it seems that everything these days is going to "choke the Internet," or result in some kind of insurmountable bandwidth crunch (despite ramped up investment). The latest bandwidth apocalypse fear comes courtesy of Slashdot and Computer World, who proclaim that a bird flu pandemic would lead to -- you got it -- a worldwide bandwidth meltdown. Apparently, so many people would suddenly be working from home and using the Internet that networks would all struggle under the load. The result, claims Computerworld, would be voluntary and then government-mandated bandwidth rationing.

This makes sense

In the event that we all realized we only had a few days before we all died a slow and agonizing death, people everywhere will be in need of porn. Going to the video store will not be possible. Porn will be obtain via online access. The government may need to ration porn out to make sure there is enough to go around.
