recent report may have suggested that WiMax will remain a 'niche' technology for the time being, Motorola (a key financial supporter of the technology) insists it can help bridge the broadband divide in developing nations.
"DSL just does not exist in Africa," says Stefano Mattiello, Motorola's regional sales director for sub-Saharan Africa.
"And I can guarantee you one thing: People are not going to start digging up the countryside to lay fiber." Of course those same areas are already quickly gobbling up 3G services for those same reasons. Of course we're still waiting on the technology to be a DSL and cable competitor here in the first world, as
so many promised.
