I don't have Comcast's VoIP service personally, but it certainly is proving to be a nice addition to their product line. I'd have to think they are getting at least if not more than 40% profit per VoIP subscriber dollar as well.

In my service area FiOS TV is about $10 cheaper than Comcast for comparable programming. Comcast was also higher on most equipment rentals. After Comcast sold our local cable system to Time Warner, prices dropped so that FiOS TV and TWC are about the same price. -- There's only 10 types of people in this world. Cablevision calls me at least once a week trying to sell me on their service. Once I ask if they can match what I have, the phone call quickly ends.

| vonage great except you need broadband. dsl, slower speeds then cable on average verizon phone, kinda redundant since you have vonage(i know is not your fault you need to keep). local, may be free but it is 50-60 channels LESS then the $99.00 bundle. not exactly apples to apples.
You forget to pay your verizon bill and vonage is lost, and vonage doesnt reimburse you due to your isp being out afaik. same if something happens on your verizon line. Cable co. on other hand will reimburse you for downtime.. with exception of non-pay, but that stands to reason.

Comcast has failed here more times then anyone can recall. Their service cut out on me over 10x after an install. Charge me 250.00 to fix something outside my house. Refused to remove the charge. Continued to cut out on me. Vonage would drop like a stone on Comcast (its VERY good on my DSL). Got double billed and triple billed for things.

| Compare.... percentage of calls (in and out) that get the "all circuits busy, please try later" message** -
Comcast DV: 20, Verizon POTS: 0
similar TV packages -
Comcast Digital Classic/Plus: $65-70, Verizon FiOS TV (the only TV Vz offers, barring the DirecTV co-branding package with DSL): $43
Why has CDV grown in customer base so "fast"? Because customers want phone service from the same company that provides the wire into their home. It sure ain't because it's a "great deal". CDV is just OK--worth the $40+ to some, not worth it to others.
Don't use the phone much? Get Skype or somethin'.

Comcast Digital Plus gives you a base movie package (Encore) and a digital box. FIOS TV is still cheaper, but once you equate the services by adding on the FIOS a la carte items, it's alot closer than the $27 spread you suggest. The problem with FIOS is that with pay channels and multiple TVs, it costs more than Comcast. Comcast is the better deal if you have >3 TVs in the house, IMO. Things will change, though, when analog goes away.

| Re: Compare.... If, if,... if, which is why "general" comparisons are never "perfect", hence YMMV is always the case. Myself? One TV. Comcast doesn't compare favorably with anyone on price and performance regarding any of their services [for me], which doesn't mean much if Comcast is the only provider in one's service area. I'm lucky; I've got a plethora of providers in my area. Yep, throw in the "a la carte items" (Encore and Showtime and Starz and an HD DVR from Vz), and the price differential is smaller, but still enough to give Vz the edge by an easy margin... for me.
So, yeah, I don't disagree with anything you've said (except a larger apple vs a smaller apple is still "apples to apples", worms and all).

| Re: Compare.... It's Digital Plus that has the Encore channels. The Verizon movie package ($13) has Encore, Starz, and Showtime (which includes TMC, and Flix), plus Sundance--45 channels altogether (and, yes, some are just east coast/west coast versions of each other separated by 3 hrs, but I've actually found that to be useful sometimes). Digital Classic does have Flix.
Basically, they (both Comcast and Verizon, or anyone) don't really try to make it terribly easy to do a channel for channel comparison. Anyway, to each his/her own. Expect packages and prices to change as it suits either company.
