only thing it will save them is having to pay a company for coverage.

Won't necessarily mean better coverage... They would do it for the user base. All the areas where there are redundant towers the lesser tower will be shut down.
|

Re: Go Sprint!!!In my area of Ohio it would mean better coverage. Where Sprint doesn't have service we roam onto the Alltel network and the phone flips out for a minute. Putting Alltel on the actual sprint network would most likely fix that.

Spent makes sense, ATT does not.however, I can see them spinning off the western wireless GSM properties to ATT, and pimping the rest of themselves to Spent. They will have the largest redneck network in the country.

Look at the deal Cingular and T-Mobile had in California prior to Cingular buying AT&T Wireless. They operated a shared GSM network. Both owned 50% of the value of the network assets. The FCC had no problem with that. It's just a matter of getting the right regulator to sign off on it.

Sprint Is Garbage! Please Let Verizon Bring Em To Life!Sprint turned Nextel into more dropped calls. If Verizon Wireless were to buy them it would make bring 2 strong companies together. Everybody I know including myself that have Verizon never drop calls and are very satisfied. Who cares if Sprint has unlimited usage...Yeah you will need all that with all the dropped calls they have. Alltel also has very good coverage in rural areas. With Verizon Wireless serving metro areas and Alltel in rural areas..This is a win win situation. I don't even want to talk about ATT buying them! Come On Verizon Lets Make A Wise Decision And Buy ALLTEL

Nextel was crippled long before Sprint bought them. The mistake Sprint made was buying them in the first place; their networks were incompatible. Sprint has the best CDMA network; if they can afford it Alltel would be a far easier integration than Nextel turned out to be.

Re: Sprint Is Garbage! Please Let Verizon Bring Em To Life! That is why the new Hybird phones have been released and more on the way. I'd rather see them slowly kill Nextel's network than up and force everyone at once to Sprint and then be up and sold to someone else because Sprint would get a beating out of that from customers; especially the businesses; the ones that have the major whole corporate accounts such as First Energy here.

Re: Sprint Is Garbage! Please Let Verizon Bring Em To Life!Every company experiences this when they merge and spin off other companies. When VZ took over Cellular One in my area it was a nightmare basically everyone jumped ship due to you had to buy a new phone, yes buy not free. Because they claimed the phones were not of the same technology. But if you kept your old phone after you left and tried calling out on it; you were directed to VZW wanting you to reactivate the phone they just told you weeks ago that would not work.
Edit: Sprint could be counted the largest provider in the country if they counted all the resellers they have. a TON of providers resell from Sprint.

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but, the Nextel cellular network is experiencing increasingly frequent intermittent outages in my area and all the customer service reps are offering to migrate Nextel customers to the "hybrid" phone or moving completely to Sprint. My Nextel customers are furious as the "hybrid" is unable to be activated in the 845 area code as it is still an affiliate market.

WOW.. You must not have been one of those 80 million calls that proved Sprint had the most reliable network. We are not talking just one market, I think it was pretty spread out and the rags of JDPower and Corruption reports can't argue with 80 million calls. The funny thing here is Sprint didn't sanction this. From what I read, they too were surprised by the results due to the enormity. I guess the likes of Cringeler or Un-Mobile would buy them just to make a killing on roaming agreements with Sprint or Sperizon and keep the CDMA portion in tack. Naw.. they would never do that.. Partysource.. Maybe you should spend a little time doing some research. Nextels dropped calls started months before Sprint stepped in. Don't forget, Nextel towers share public service bandwidth and they had to provide that bandwidth as per the FCC, therefore, if you can remember how channel 2 and 3 on TV's with cable sometimes get interference from the OTA stations, then that might turn on your light bulb as to why Nextel is having such a problem. Sprint hand nothing to do with it. PERCEPTION. It's just a filler..

Re: Sprint Is Garbage! Please Let Verizon Bring Em To Life! All I am saying is I have had every single carrier. And no doubt without a doubt Verizon Wireless Has The Best Network. I travel often from Phoenix to New York City. I would drive around and knew where a call would drop when I had Sprint. I would say "Okay If I drop right here I will call you back" OMG how embarrassing is that? I thought dropping calls was normal until I switched to Verizon. Anyway hands on this carrier is enough for me to believe Sprint Sucks! Yeah they got good plans..And That All They Got!

Re: Sprint Is Garbage! Please Let Verizon Bring Em To Life!Sprint-Nextel are starting to put the networks together. Thanks to MOT the new phones for Nextel are better than ever before. You have roaming which was never available before on Nextel. When Sprint starts pushing the phones on their side everyone will benefit with Sprint-Nextel.
But I agree; Alltel would be the best option for Sprint.

Re: Sprint Is Garbage! Please Let Verizon Bring Em To Life! The hybrid phones will roam in areas with 1900 service. I'm sure in the future, they will roam on both. I've had the chance to use the i502's and they work like a charm. At least Sprint-Nextel is moving in the right direction but not as fast as some wish. I like the fact that on legacy sprint phones, you can now roam w/data ability. Before, it was difficult to find a area where data services still worked in a area of roaming only.

I'm sure...AT&T will make them bend over and come under their wing. Again, we don't have the money to improve our current services for our current customers, but here we go, let's by another network.

Re: I'm sure...No matter what carrier ends up with Alltel (assuming they sell, and aren't just inflating stock), I suspect that GSM and CDMA assets would have to be broken up/sold off seperately. Alltel runs AMPS/CDMA, but also runs a GSM network for roaming. » www.gsmworld.com/cgi-bin ··· s&net=whCingular, T-Mobile, Dobson or RCC would like to have a piece of it.

interestingI am a Sprint subscriber...don't know if this would be a good thing or not, I'm kinda up in the air.
BTW...I never drop calls on sprint, been subscriber for 3 years now. I'd hate for them to change things and ruin a good thing.
I remember when I signed up, everyone told me not to, just because their roaming was aweful around here. If you wern't close to a town you were on roaming. This is South Dakota, 75% rural area here, I'd say about 30% coverage on Sprint when I signed up. It's gotten a hell of a lot better now, and I'd say 90% coverage in SD. I have free roaming on my package so that 10% isn't even a concern any more.
I love Sprint, and hope no one messes it up.

Re: interestingsaid by hottboiinnc4:Alltel would improve your coverage due to their major roaming agreements. What roaming agreements does Alltel have which Sprint does not? How so? Sprint already has free roaming on Alltel (both voice & data, including EDVO.) And see above for roaming. How are Alltel plans priced better than Sprints? Not to mention, Sprint is incredibly flexible in giving away perks. Sounds plausible And not to pick on you, but you listed the arguments out much more clearly than most.

Re: ?I think Verizon buying Alltell would be the best bet. Sprint sill has issues, and AT&T just got over regulatory hurdles from buying Bellsouth. There was talk also awhile back Verizon wants to buy the other half of Verizon Wireless from VodaPhone.
I use to have Sprint wireless and they stink. Dropped calls no matter where you go, even in areas where the signal is suppose to be the strongest.

Sprint Is the Obvious ChoiceIt's a shame that Sprint bought Nextel...they should have just left it alone, then waited until this deal came up; I'm sure Sprint would have purchased them in no time flat.
I personally hope that Verizon doesn't purchase them. Why? If they do, there goes Sprint + Alltel EVDO and voice roaming fore free. *sigh*.
AT&T? I still can't see them purchasing a near 100% CDMA company...if you thought Sprint + Nextel was bad, well, let's just say you have not seen anything yet.
Or, better, yet, Sprint could just sell off/dump Nextel and use the money to purchase Alltel...heh, yeah right, like that will ever happen. Ahh well, one can always hope.

You know who hasn't mentioned yet.....Qwest...
Qwest has been looking to get some sort of wireless revenues since they sold off their wireless division to Verizon about 6 years ago....right now they just co-brand Sprint services with the Qwest name. If they buy out Alltel, they'd have their own network.

Leave poor alltel alone.Personally I just hope this is just Hype like it has been for the past 4 years.
I have alltel and it is the best service for where I live. I will not argue with some about alltel as alltel's quality can vary greatly based on where your live. As Alltel is a mis mash of different cell providers you end up having two billing systems. Something with a V and one called Cellware. Tampa happens to be a Cellware market and neverhave issue. The other people complain about customer service and what they can do . They often complain about coverage or quality.
But if you had to sell lets look at what is out there.
1. Sprint, This seems to be the popular choice. They currently are prefered voice and data roaming with alltel and vice versa. Also sprint would have the lease overlap in coverage. compared to Verizon and ATT. One less provider using Brew. Java on CDMA means I can finally upload games I have back up off old gsm phones that are java
2. Verizon Hmm lots of double coverage. It would also mean the end decent firmware. It is sad when Verizon customers are very patiently waiting for phones to come to alltel so they can get a firmware dump so they can flash there verizon phones with alltel firmware. Why because alltel does not criple there phones like verizon. So Verizon buying out alltel is bad. Alltel has a unlimited means unlimted data usage policy. I have heavly used my alltel data service for months and no mean verizon type letters yet.
3. ATT Whats the point? for roaming out west. i dont think alltel would give that up. The cdma can not be separated from the gsm. It is one specturm licence it just alltel equiping towers with both cdma and gsm technology. Alltel is actively adding gsm to current cdma towers to increase there gsm roaming so they can make more money off cingular/tmobile.
4. Other who the hell knows.
|

lol @ SprintSprint isn't in any position to buy anybody.

for that matter, Tmobileits getting tougher and tougher to hoe the wireless without a pimp telco... which means tmobile is feeling similar incentive to find an investor or sale. going it alone will put these smaller companies at a large disadvantage in the coming years.
