As we mentioned yesterday, Verizon sued VoIP provider Vonage, claiming the company infringes on five VoIP patents the telco developed in the nineties. The jury's verdict is in, and they found that Vonage infringed on three of the patents (also see Bloomberg). They've ordered Vonage to pay $58 million in damages, as well as a 5.5% royalty rate on each Vonage customer, per month. Verizon lawyers have requested a permanent injunction barring Vonage from further use of the patented tech, with a hearing date set for March 23. Let the Vonage death watch commence.
